I bought a white longhaired gsd pup 5weeks ago and he was a WHITE ball of fluff,however he has taken on a beigey creamy colour to his ears and down his back and doesnt seem as longhaired anymore,maybe he has grown into his coat??????I hope not as i wanted a white longhaired and this is what i expect, i dont want to ring the breeder as she might think im being fussy as i've rang her several times already with things LOL,what do you think????Is he likely to turn out short coat and not white after all?????

Very few 'white' GSDs are actually white. They are almost all a cream colour, similar to a very pale Golden retriver. He is very likely to turn out the same colour as his ears are now - they may go darker still. What colour was the mother?

You can't judge any dogs coat colour or type from the puppy coat. In my own breed they are born brown and by 8 weeks a good few are white, but all end up grey, well we hope they do. As JG says I have never seen a pure white GSD they are all various shades of cream, and the fluffy puppy coat will change but to what could only be know by those knowing the animals in the pups background, even then you can get an odd one that is not what was expected.

If you are not going to be happy with anything but a white GSD with a long coat, may be you should return the pup now before it gets too old and finishes up in a rescue centre.

My 8month WGSD is a white and 'champagne' coulour (thats the proper name lol) he is gorgeous, I didnt get him for breeding or showing or for his colour. I got him as I fell in love, I also saw both his parents and so I knew he wouldnt stay white all over. If you want e-mail me and i'll show you a picture pf what he looks like atm. But believe me, I have seen pure white GSD's and I dont think they look nicer at all. :)
