Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Showing at Crufts

I qualified my pup for Crufts and so in March next year he will be 13mths old. What class should I be entering him into and is it right that you can/should/could enter into more than one class? I thought entering more than one class at a champ show was frowned upon is it not the same at Crufts?

Thank you :-)

P.S. What's the last date whereby you can qualify in time for Crufts 2002?

You should be entering him in Junior (for dogs of up to 18 months old) as he will be out of puppy by March. You can enter as many classes as you like (and the dog is eligible for) at any show, it is not frowned upon to enter more than one. It can, however, be a bit embarassing if you are not placed in the first class and then have to keep going into the ring knowing that you are not going to do anything in these classes as well.

Not sure of the last date to qualify for Crufts 2002 but will be around end of December or 1st week in January as closing date for entries is usually sometime in 1st week in January.

Good luck with your first time at Crufts, there is nothing quite like this first time.

Actually at Crufts he will be able to go in Special Puppy, as at Crufts only the age ceiling is 14 months, they raised it due to dogs under 9 months not being allowed, that left the puppy class with only dogs of born in a 3 month period. Least ways I think that is why they did it, whatever it is 14 months.

As regards entering more than 1 class, this used to be normal practice, but it seems that people now adays want the chance of being in the challenge, so fear entering more than one class in case they win one and get beaten in the second. My view is they would have got beaten in challenge anyway.

I have recently made up my first Champion, and I entered her in two classes at Champ shows, and 5 at our breed show where she won her first CC, mind you by the time we had won 3 classes I wished I hadn't entered them all :)

My breed can sometimes have small entries in the lower classes, so the reason I enter two is to have more competition. at LKA last year I was second in a class of 3, but then I went on to win the next class which had 9 or 10 exhibits. Also if you have a small class the dog hardly gets a chance to get asclimatised, so sometimes it can perform better in the next class!

In the end it is entirely up to you, but if youare new to showing I would enter Puppy and Junior as this will give you more practice,,and hopefully build your and your exhibits confidence. It will also test the water for when he has to be in Junior at the next show.

It depends what classes your particular breed is offered. Get hold of the schedule thne make your mind up. You can enter in as many classes as you like (or are eligible for) as far as I am aware it is not frowned upon.

Thanks Guys, looks like Puppy and Junior seem to be the classes to enter, will decide nearer the time if I want to do both classes or just one. :-)

And no doubt a lot nearer the time I will be bending your ears again cos I'll be panicking

Claire.

At least you can show your dogs at Crufts

< walks off in a huff >

Same here too Leigh.

It's about time that we could show as everybody else. I wonder if they scrapped group 8 because they realised that a number of our rare breeds could win best in show at the qualified shows!! I bet it wasn't for the reasons stated.
- By Leigh [us] Date 09.11.01 14:01 UTC
It's a ludicrous situation isn't it.
- By Claire B [gb] Date 09.11.01 18:12 UTC
It's a real shame Leigh & Diane that you can't show your dogs :-(

Leigh has Bear been invited to DD at Crufts? Would love to see him again and you of course but I promise not to give you the big smacker I've kept for Bear :D
- By Leigh [us] Date 14.11.01 20:24 UTC
Haven't been asked yet Claire ... I'm not flavour of the month with the breed club at the moment. Their loss ;-) Are you going to LKA ? You can see him make his UK show debut if you are :D Phewwwwwww glad to hear that your not gonna kiss me ...lol
Got a lovely photo of him recently.Would you like to see it?
- By dianep [gb] Date 14.11.01 23:38 UTC
Hi Leigh

You'd better say hello to me. I'll be with 2 of my SWD's, my old girl Dilita and my youngest Lana.

Look forward to seeing yuo there.

**grabbing at the new photo** heyyyyyyy, how come I didn't get to see this one?

Seriously, maybe we all should email the breed club and tell them that it doesn't matter if YOU are the flavour of the month with them, but that we think that Bear is an absolutely wonderful representative of the breed and that they shouldn't be so myopic!!! What did you say the email was? **grinning**

Check your inbox ;-) Leigh

Bear is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! I'm hoping that we can get together when Kai is a bit older. I'd love to have him pattern off a nice working dog. Check your inbox for the latest of Kai!!
- By Claire B [gb] Date 16.11.01 14:05 UTC
Leigh of course I want to see the photo  LOL! Think you've got my work and home addy's so if you're sending it this afternoon send to my work. Let me know if you've not got the addy's.

Unfortunately I decided not to enter LKA, we have a breed show next week at Sheffield and seeing as we had already qualified for Crufts **brag brag** I thought I would give him a break from the travelling.

As for the breed club you just tell us who to contact and we'll tell em good and proper eh Sierra ;-) And if they don't listen we'll send the boys round **anyone got any BIG spare boys**
- By sierra [gb] Date 16.11.01 14:27 UTC
Sounds good to me, Claire!! We'll also see you at Crufts since Mara qualified in her second championship show for it!

Now about that breed club, Leigh -- where DO we send our demands for the handsome Bear to be issued with a request to appear? LOL -- think I could arrange a subpoena??? mmmmm.... might be worth an ad hoc just to be able to put my hands on the big guy again!
- By Claire B [gb] Date 16.11.01 15:07 UTC
Well done Sierra & Mara. Will be great to finally meet at Crufts if not before :-)
- By Leigh [us] Date 21.11.01 10:45 UTC

- By Freeway [gb] Date 08.11.01 14:07 UTC
I'll be panicking too as it will be my first time showing my own dog. Last year I showed my parents' bitch but it's not the same as showing your own dog.
- By Irene [gb] Date 14.11.01 19:02 UTC
Hi Claire, Yipee!!! i've qualified midget for Crufts as well, my very first, really looking forward to it, hope to see you at some open shows soon, glad you are doing well with your pup.

Claire

Just to let you know the schedules for Crufts 2002 are out
mine arrived this morning, bit of a shock at some of the price increases.
Give the KC a ring and they will forward you the schedule, entries close 7th january (which i presume is the last day to qualify).
Entries will be taken at LKA this year.

Carolyn
