Is there a breed known as the Long Haired Shar-pei? If so, does anyone have a picture?
Thanks.

Don't know, don't think so, recon the skin within the folds would not do very well with long hair. Most that I have seen have a rather spiky sort of coat that stands off with no undercoat. Dizzy will know for sure.

It isn't a separate breed is a coat variation. They are called bear coats and are incorrect for the standard. Because longhair is recessive the odd ones do crop up!

Hello guest

As a previous poster has already said the "long coated Sharpei" is the 3rd variation of the breed. And should never be bred from, make wonderful pets, but should be sold on a spay neuter pet agreement. Here is a website that is set up for bearcoat sharpei. http://www.bearcoatsharpei.co.uk/

Hope this helps

The look attractive, do they have a double coat, it looks soft, not stiff as it normaly is, does it cause skin trouble or is it vary sparce. Oh! and what is the 2nd variation.

Hi Jackie

Yes Bears can have a double coat, a bit like a long coated gsd :-), the coat on bears can be all different lengths, some have like a flat coat retriever type body and a bushy tail and a lion type mane, whilst others can have lengthy hair everywhere :-) All the bears I have ever seen, have never had a problem with the skin trouble, as it tends to be the harshness of the hair, that can cause what is known as "sharpei rash" on humans, rather like prickly heat :-) The first coat length that you mainly see in the show ring is "Brush coat max 1 inch in length" the second type again seen in the ring is "Horse-coat harshest/shortest of the coats" and then finally the fluffy Bear coated Pet :-)
