Hi,

Hope someone can help we have a 7 month old male viszla who has been trained and socialised. Recently he has started to growl at people he knows well, he makes no attempt to hurt just growls and stays very still. He does not do this when in crowds, yesterday he barked and growled at two neighbours, they were very nice about it, but i do not want this to get worse. Other than this recent developement he is great gentle and loving. Any advice would be appreciated.

He has not made an attempt yet! Growling and freezing is a warning; the next step will be a bite. Please get some hands on advice immediately.

This sort of behaviour must be taken as a warning - for whatever reason, you need to get advice from a competent behaviourist (UKRCB or APDT with an interest in behaviour - will probably need a referral from your vet). There could be alsorts of reasons for this behaviour, pain, fear, learnt behaviour, or pushing the limits as he matures - please get somebody to see him and advise accordingly.
