Topic Dog Boards / General / HELP! Collecting new puppy- best method?
- By ljblanchfield [gb] Date 18.09.03 11:56 UTC
Hi, I wondered if someone can help or point me in the right direction! We are going to view some puppies in Glasgow in a couple of weeks and we are flying up there as we live in Berkshire, the thing is, if we fall in love with one (which we undoubtedly will!) how should I bring the puppy back when he's ready? Neither myself or my partner can drive and I would like to choose the least traumatic method for the poor puppy. Are there actually companies that can help out with this - we are prepared to pay whatever it takes to get our puppy to us safely.
Does anyone have any recommendations or contacts?
Thanks
Lucy

I still think the train would be the safest bet.

i tend to agree with you - i'm totally confused though now as I don't want to endanger the pup by going on a train where he can catch something.

If he's in a travelling box he should be fine, and if he stands on newspaper if he has to go on the floor for any reason. Very few animals travel by train these days, so there's not likely to be as many chances of infection as with a specialist 'animal carrier'. It should (barring unforeseen delays) be quicker and less stressful than a long journey by road.

Lucy, Hi and welcome to the board :)
I agree with JG, the train would seem to be the kindest if you or hubby can't drive. We're in a similar situation, we live between Glasgow and Edinburgh and are picking up our puppy from Boston, Lincs  but we both drive. We've been down a couple of times now but I must admit it's a very long drive. Good luck - let us know how you get on - what breed of puppy are you getting?

P.S. JG ) Barring unforseen delays - Surely this can't be British Rail you're talking about
