Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Advice on feeding Staffie

Hi, Buster is coming up for a year old and I have always fed him a combination of Pedigree Complete and a bit of tinned mixed in. From reading threads on here, I see that tripe is a good thing to give a dog, but can anyone tell me what would be the ideal diet to feed a Staff? I've tried him on Iams Complete [didn't know about the horrible stuff!], and it went through like the eye of a needle, and Pedigree seems to agree with him. However, I've since read on here that it's full of wheaty stuff they don't need so that's why they do lots of poos. However, if I feed him a "better" complete food, where would the tripe come in? Any advice welcome, I'm very confused and want to do what's best for him. We currently feed him twice a day, a third in the morning and two thirds at night, if that makes sense, he eats whatever's put in front of him straightaway and usually finishes it all, and he's not hungry in the middle of the day. Hi, I used to feed my terrible two on chappie complete, but all this did was give them huge soft poos, and lots of them. Have recently changed over to Autarky complete dry food and I mix a bit of Butchers tinned tripe in with it, they love it and its also firmed their poos up considerably. Good luck.

Hi there,

I have a 2yr old staffy. For the past few months I have fed him on Butchers tinned tripe, he has a full tin in the morning with some mixer biscuits, and then half a tin at night with something mixed in - tuna, pilchards or just the tea leftovers. He was really fussy before (he was on pedigree tinned food), and had quite a bad skin condition, but now he eats every last drop and his coat is lovely and shiny and his skin condition has more or less cleared up, so must be doing him some good i think.

Yes, I think I'll definitely move over to Butcher's Tripe ... by the way, is it only available from big pet food shops, such as Jolleys?

If it's the tinned stuff, I'm sure I've seen it in Tescos.
:)
