Topic Dog Boards / Health / weird poo

Have just changed our two over to Autarky complete, mixed with a spoonful of butchers tripe.
Cassie is doing really well on it so far, wolfs it down and her poos have really improved, have gone from large and soft on Chappie complete, to small and hard on the Autarky/tripe diet. Our male, Teddy, however, seems to have weird poos, he loves the food but when he go's to do his business it comes out quite firm at first but then proceeds to get rather soft, all in the same sitting so to speak.
Could it be he is just taking longer to adjust to the change in diet than Cassie or could it be the tripe causing this? He seems well enough but its still concerning us. Many thanks.

It may be he needs time to adjust but i would not mix a complete dry food with any other food.Look also at what else he has during the day, chews and treats etc. After all that though it could be that he just does not get on with Autarky complete, what suits one does not necessarily suit another, but i would continue for a while longer but leave out the tinned food.

Hi,

Different opinions, but there is no reason not to mix dry with tinned food. If both foods are complete (check the can) than the diet is completely balanced.

If the dogs eat the dry Autarky without the tinned food, however, there is no reason to bother with the tinned stuff. I expect Autarky is a better quality of food than Butchers tripe.

Either food could be causing the soft poo, it's diet change of any kind that normally does it.

Suzanne, wonderful conversation isn't it but my boy's are the same and always have been on Autarky and now JWB. I have never worried about it.

Thanks for the replies, seems the problems now solved :) Cassie gets tripe with both of her meals but Im only giving Teddy the tripe with his morning meal. I took them out this morning for the toilet and low and behold, Teddys poo was small and firm, no sign of the runs at all!! I know it might be consisdered weird to get all excited about dog poo, but Im sooo pleased, lol. Only wish I found Autarky sooner :)
