I read in the paper today that the Italian Government has put corgis, border collies and St Bernards on their list of Dangerous Dogs who have to be muzzled!!!
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 15.09.03 20:27 UTC
and not allowed step ladders (corgis). What total claptrap. What is the world coming to, what happened to personal choice. Glad I am getting old, to be honest I would not wish to be around in 50 years.

melody has put a post in about this too with a link for those who never read the paper :)

Spoke to a man with a pitbull today. Muzzled and a better trained dog I don't think I've meet I happily let Sal meet him. He was at least half as big as her. Never meet the man before (odd as it's a small estate) but he said while they had been waiting for his wife in Sainsburys no one else had approached him and I were the first person with a dog to come near him and the dog since he'd had him.

But what the world's coming to I don't know.

I know some people who should be muzzled ( I'm sure we all do)- never mind corgis and the like ;)
- By mr murphy [gb] Date 15.09.03 21:04 UTC
Thats funny Lel I know of someone who could maybe do with a muzzle.

The idiot that decided to put these dogs on this list obviously knows nothing about dogs!!
- By andy_s_80 [gb] Date 15.09.03 20:55 UTC
although it does sound like a really stupid idea to put border collies and corgis on the list it does show something that ive been saying for a long time - all dogs can be dangerous in the wrong hands.

maybe time to drop the dangerous dogs list i think and replace it with a moronic owners list!! far better use of paper lol.
- By luvly [gb] Date 15.09.03 21:28 UTC
yep thats right any dog what ever breed can harm in the wrong hands early training is important.but theres always the first time dog owner and i think they should put some consideration what kind of dog to get.
last christmas i was walking down the road and behind me was someone i know he had a rotty pup. i had to laugh at how he was training it. he was like oh your a norty thing sit boy ohh come here, sort of thing, it wasent paying any attention anyway i just found out that the rotty pup got a bit out of hand and they had to give it someone else .:( sad i know people get attached, a rotty for a first dog? mabe a lab would have been better
- By andy_s_80 [gb] Date 15.09.03 21:55 UTC
i cant say anything there - my first dog was a rotty, his training wasnt the best lol but his temprement was unbelieveably good. maybe not the best choice i guess but why should an animal be punished by being forced to wear a muzzle etc because the owner is uncapable of handling it.
- By jacki [gb] Date 15.09.03 22:00 UTC
muzzles are a sore point arn't they lovelady :) my fault
- By sams [gb] Date 16.09.03 14:40 UTC
This country is no better banning the breeding of pittbulls, even though the year they were banned they were not in the top 3 for attacks recorded.
- By mr murphy [gb] Date 16.09.03 15:44 UTC
When the APBT was banned it held 1% of dog attacks on humans in the uk. I can think of other recognised breeds that had a lot more than that.
The goverment needed to be seen to be doing something in the uk at the time. When thwe DDA came in (I may be wrong here) There was one known Tosa in the uk. No fila's No Dogo's. The dog that they banned was a political move. Most people who owned APBT's at the end of the eighties were from the (this is where I get jumped on)poorer areas and owned by people who were unlikely to vote. This ban did not affect the kc or the voting public. It has left the door open though for the goverment to add any breed they want to the DDA without any fuss.

I feel terribly sorry for any italian BC owners! The thought of having to keep a border collie muzzled and on a lead all the time in a public place is enough to send me and the dog insane!! Its so unfair as there are probably so many well trained dogs over there that wouldn't hurt a fly that are seemingly being punished because other dogs aren't so good. All dogs can be dangerous if they have that kind of temperament, regardless of breed. I hope they don't decide to do that over here, my collie would go insane!
