We would love to buy a small-medium size dog and the beagle fits the bill.
What type of temperament do they have as we have 2 children and do they moult incessently?
Would the beagle be a good buy?
Regards
JF

What does everyone else think on Beagles ?? I always imagined them as hard to train dogs because they tended to "follow their nose", a bit like all hounds I suppose, none of them can really be trusted off lead. I think the beagles temperament is ok though (obviously depending on breeding and raising)

I know 2 beagles and owners, 1 family has just got a beagle puppy and has a 1 year old beagle. They have short hair and are very playful and active. Both get off lead and have no problem coming back, but they can be stubborn their owners say. One lady has met lots of people who had a beagle - ONCE.:) Small and tightly packed with energy, very affectionate are other descriptions. Why not do a search on the breed and visit a breeder to get the best information ?

I know several Beagles and thet are all lovely temps, thier hair does come out but it is very short. The are not too big either. The ones Ive met seen very willing to please and happy to be here if you know what I mean. If you do want a dog that doesn't moult try a yorkie, bichon (sp?) or poodle but all these dogs will cost a little more money as they will all want proffesional grooming every couple of months. hope this helps.

I would definately do some research before purchasing a beagle. They do make lovely pets but they are energetic and training can take a bit longer than usual. They do moult quite alot considering their coat is very short and flat. You will find all the things you need to know about beagles if you contact the beagle association and ask them for a handbook. They will also give you advice based on your own circumstances.
