Does he travel on the seat? - laying on the floor helps. Try Bach flower Rescue Remedy (health food shops and chemists) which will calm him. If he doesn't like going in the car, introduce him slowly. Let him get used to it while stationary, sit in there with him for a while with the windows open, then start to leave him alone while you are close by, give him treats in the car - just get him to be familiar with it. Then idle the engine for a while but don't go anywhere and finally short journeys to the park so he knows something good is at the end of the journey. Good luck. He will grow out of it in time - we daren't leave a car door open, ours would use it as a kennel!!!
Oh yes, another good one is to let him see you go off in the car a few times, especially if you take your other dog, jealousy and curiosity will get the better of him and he will end up dying to go with you!

She travels in the boot with my other dog, i have noticed that she willnot jump in the car and picking up a 5 month GSD is quite back breaking :-D. I have just done a search on the net about introducing the car whilst stationary, so i am going to give her, her lunch in there later. and then when my partner gets home from work each day we can do happy things in the car aswell with her.
Its weird cause my older GSD is like yours leave a car door open and she is in there, so i do hope it wears off soon.
We are going on holiday in 5 weeks to Orkney so we kind of have a dead line, as she will be in the car for about 20hrs with lots of breaks along the way.
And i must admit she hates it when the Ice goes out and she has to stay in so we will try the jealousy thing as well, something is bound to work.

Try leaving a favourite toy and one of her blankets in there too to make it more "homely".

My GSD bitch was travel sick when I first got her (3 yrs old). I used "Travella", which is a homeopathic treatment for humans, it worked great!!

I gave Rhona 2 tablets about an hour before we travelled, and if you're going a long way, you can give her another couple about an hour later. It took her about a year to get over this!! It is worth it, as now we can go to all the shows and she's never sick.
Hope they work for you.
P.S I used to get very travel sick as a kid, and my mum used to give me barley sugar to suck on. Try that for your kids!!

Ours grew out at about 7 months ! I was dreading the family holiday because of it but he stopped all of a sudden.
Also I was told to put newspaper under him where he sits - which I did and he stopped being sick! whether it was this or he grew outof it I will never know!!
Have Fun!

Sealegs from Boots are wonderful. They make some dogs a little drowsy so if you are travelling to shows its best to try it out before hand as each dog is different. Its hardly noticeable but in some it may take the "sparkle" out. I would give 1/2 to a WHWT puppy or 1 to an adult.(8-10 k) I am not sure if larger dogs can take/need a larger dose , so I would ask the chemist. They really are worth trying, haven't failed me yet.

Thick rubber matting under the dogs (like car mats).
