Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / New pup with a year old flat coat

Any advice/tips?

Our flat coat will be a year old. She's wonderful - no more chewing, poo-eating, weeing on carpets etc. We had a crate for her initially - this is only used for camping now. She sleeps in the kitchen on a home made duvet.

The flat coat pup is ready in 3 weeks. I'm naturally anxious about those first 4 weeks. My main questions are: crate or no crate. If we use the crate, do we put them both in it (bearing in mind that the eldest sees it as hers when we are away) or just use it for the pup. Should we hire a second crate and put one in each? If the pup is in the crate, when can we shut the door at night to try to prevent night time poos & wees?

How do we get the older dog to recognise that the pup needs rest - or does that happen automatically (they will be left on their own for approx 2 hours a day - should we put them in separate rooms?)

And any other pearls of wisdom gratefully received

Many thanks
