Is it ok to give a Labrador Glucosmine Sulphate from a health shop rather than pay £48.00 for the dogs equivalent from the vets.

yes, but check with your vet first also for dosage.

We have our old arthritic pony on a product called Cortaflex, it is an american product available here in UK, it made a tremendous difference to his joints and mobility and he is back to jumping and hunting etc. It could be worth a try, good luck with your him.

I used Glucosamine Sulphate on my old dog and very good it was too. My vet recommended I bought it from Holland & Barratt as it was a long term thing. He was quite bad and had two a day.

Hi, I go running quite often, sometimes rather long distances! I began to get stiff knees that clicked when I walked. A fellow runner recommended glucosamine sulphate and I now take two a day with cod liver oil - it has worked wonders (when I can remember to take it :)) Anyway, I get it off the net at £10 for six months supply, thats at two a day! i cant remember the site off the top of my head and dont have time to look right now, but I will post it as soon as I have found it!!!
Sarah.

Hello chaps,

Both of my working labs are on Cortavet/Cortaflex and have been for ages. As well as the Glucosamine, it also has chondroitin sulphate in in which is also very good for joint/bone mobility. My older lab, Isla, broke her shoulder when she was a year old and we were recommended cortaflex then by our fab vet. We use it now so that in a few years time, the arthritis that she will inevitable get in that shoulder, won't worry her too much. When I got my new pup (5 months old today!) I checked with the vet if it was ok to give to pups, and got the all clear, so he has it as well. Mine is from an internet vet shop, at £23.00 a bottle, which is 5 x strength of the original, so all I do is spray it on their evening food and bobs your uncle! One bottle lasts ages.Good luck

Hi guest

Yes you can use the capsules from the health food shop. 2 500mg per day for the first 3 weeks then 1 a day (per my vet).

You can also get Synflex from activexamerica.com. It is Glucosamine/chondroitin liquid formula with added shark cartiledge. 31Kg Working Labrador dog has 3ml a day. It is also suitable for humans.

Liquid formulation is beetter utilised by the body.
