Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Looking for the breeder of my cavalier..

Hi,
I recently purchased a cavalier king charles spaniel here in Northern California from a breeder in Ireland. His/her name is Joan or Jean Maher.
I needed some more info on my puppy and was wondering if anyone has heard of her/him? Any info would be appreciated. Thank you!

I am sorry to say that if you did not purchase the puppy direct from the breeder having gotten to know them, but from a third party in the USA (unless of course it was an ex show dog etc), then it is very likely it came from a puppy farm (what you call puppy mill) as no responsible caring breeder would export to persons unknown. any breeder worth their salt wants to ensure that their puppies are in the best of homes with people they know and trust.

If the above is the case I would also want an experienced Cavalier breeder/exhibitor to look at your dog to see if it is even typical. It may be a poor specimin (from the show3 point of view). I do hope the dog hasn't any health issues, as heart disease, slipping patella and probably eye diseases that they should be checked for. The kind of breeder mentioned above would not have done anything tio ensure they are as far as possible minimising the risks of producing dogs with health anomalies.
