Topic Dog Boards / Health / Huge swelling on the neck of my terrier

My 4 year old terrier has a huge swelling under her neck. We have taken her to the vet who thinks it is a foreign body which may have got lodged when she was chewing a stick or something. However they did an examination under anaesthetic last week but couldn't find anything. he thinks we should wait until there is liquid there. It has got much bigger in the last 24 hours. I don't know exactly what cellulitis is but could it be that? I've heard it's going around and it sounds similar. Or could it be a horsefly sting reaction. She has no temperature or swellings anywhere else and is acting as normal except for this huge growing lump. Please advise! I'm getting v. worried...

I would go get a second opinion.

Cellulitis means inflammation of tissue at it's cellular level.

Hello

One of my girls recently had a swelling on her neck , which turned out to be an abcess , which our vet lanced (but he found no reason why it was there) , not pleasent , but get your dog back to the vets and insist on a futher examination.

HELEN.

p.s. Our vet did think though at first it could be a problem with her saliva glands , but after he lanced the lump it was found to be an abcess. Good luck with your dog , and let us know how it goes.
