Topic Dog Boards / Showing / knowing the judge
- By lel [gb] Date 07.09.03 22:30 UTC
Now I know that those people that have been showing for a long time are more than likely to be friendly with quite a few judges but being new to the showing world I just wanted to ask if it was ok to enter a show where the judge is normally handling your dog at Ringcraft ??
Just feels a bit strange - although of course he is going to pick the best dog and not those that he knows .
Its a show I had all intentions of entering until I saw it was a judge that I know . Would you still enter ?? Or am I worrying over nothing ??
By the way the judge has no cnnections whatsoever with my dogs breeding.

It is within the rules, but it may be polite to ask the person how they feel about it. Don't expect they will find it a problem, as you say, in a small breed you know all the judges well and are very frendly with some, it makes no difference. You just accept what they think of your dog, and carry on with the relasionship after the show.

When it was allowed to show under your own breeder I never did as they can't win, if the dog is placed people would say well they bred it, if it was not placed people would say, well they don't even like what they breed.

If you mean 'handling' as in this person is leading the training and going over all the dogs at the class, then it is certainly OK to enter under them at a show. However, it is a KC rule that an owner may not show a dog under a judge that has handled the same dog at any time during the previous 12 months (handled as in shown the dog). You should even be careful who you ask to hold the lead of your dog at any time. Complainers are always watching.

Dawn is right....personally I think you are getting on rather sticky territory!
My friend judged recently, giving CC's and normally at shows we hold each others hounds whilst one is in the ring etc but for the shows leading up to her judging appointment we were very careful not to be seen holding each others hounds. Quite ridiculous really as I know she will judge honestly & not put up something unless it warrants it...but unfortunately there are some sad folk out there who are always trying to cause trouble :(
