I CANNOT GET HOLD OF MY VET AND THE B/F IS DESPERATLY RINGING AROUND ON HIS MOBILE PHONE TO SEE IF ANY ARE AVAILABLE TONIGHT TO GIVE EMERGENCY TREATMENT TO OUR DOG. WE WERE OUT WALKING WITH HIM HALF AN HOUR AGO AND WE WERE APROACHED BY THREE YOUTHS AND THEY HAVE SPRAYED WHAT WE THINK TO BE PEPPER SPRAY IN OUR DOGS FACE AND HE SCREAMING IN AGONY. WE HAVE TRIED TO WASH HIM DOWN IN WATER BUT IT SEEMS TO BE MAKING IT WORSE. WE ARE CURRENTLEY WAITING ON THE POLICE TO COME AND TAKE A STATEMENT FROM US. IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN DO FOR OUR DOG IN THE MEANTIME?
HES A VERY OLD STAFFY CROSSBREED WHO HAS NEVER HURT ANYONE. GOD THIS IS SO UPSETTING

Hi how is the little fellow dont know much about pepper spray but i would try to keep washing his eyes with water when things are more settled please tell us the whole story

Anna, take a deep breath, and find an emergency vet, there should be voice message on your vets ansaphone. The more you panic, the more your dog will. If you cannot reach your vet, phone any vet, and go and see the on-call vet, then speak to the Police later.

Get cotton wool soak with water and let it drip into eyes and wipe gently over with another clean bit keep doing this and find any vet and get him there lots of luck.

Are you sure it was pepper spray??STOP washing the eyes-pepper spray or CS gas is made WORSE by water.Get the dog facing into a strong wind or face a strong fan-this will help.

Just told hubby of this thread and as I read about the water he too said NO ! and he is trained in the use of CS spray etc !! Apparently Water is the worst thing you can use !!

I thought I would add this as it is handy for us all to know first aid for dogs.

how could any one do this to a poor dog makes me sick to think about please tell us how you got on i hope he is okay please when the dog has recovered tell us the whole story hope to god they got a really hard smack in the mouth and hopefully a bite i no if anyone did that to any dog and i knew them a baseball bat might accidentally get wrapped round their head please tell me he is okay and hopefully they are in a cell now.
