Topic Other Boards / Foo / Friendly digi Cam, for Partially sighted
- By Brainless [gb] Date 04.09.03 19:45 UTC
I am Partially sighted with about 20% Vision (can read big leter and the two letters underneath on an eye chart).

I havew an abhorence for all things small and fiddly and lots of buttons. Hate stereos, and can just sope with TV remote, but can;t use the cable one or teletext!

I want a Good digital Camera of 2megapixel but not too dear that has easy to see and use controls, and preferably a big viewfinder.

Any recomendations???

That's a difficult request. Most of the camera LCD screens are about an inch or so. What you really need is one that you can alter the LCD brightness on, that should help you see your subject. Then make sure it has an audible focus confirmation, you know, beep beep! There are dozens of good cameras available now, but I feel for the money Fuji cameras are good value and are quite user friendly. If, however you do need to see your images at full screen on your PC or printed to 10x8, then you will need a minimum of 3 million pixels.

It is more the buttons to work the various setings, as I can just about mange to see the image that is captured, and after all the beauty is if it isn't good it can be deleted.

My friend has a Coolpix that she is always saying I can borrow, but it has this tiny dial and arrow to know what you have set it too that I just cannot see.

Hi Brainless,

I would say any Fuji as they have simple controls, only 2 buttons that you need to use and the screens are clear. The qualily you get for the price is excellent. Not sure how your eyes are for colour but Fuji have an excellent colour system, Green to view , red to take the picture. Very straight forward.

I am onto my second one. First one didn't have an optical zoom, I thought I wouldn't need it but not long after having it decided I did. So now have the Finepix 2800 Zoom it is excellent.

I bought both of mine from the same company over the net, price was excellent and got free memory. I will dig out link if you like.

Sorry Brainless,

Just got this today as been away for the weekend

Here it is http://www.internetcamerasdirect.co.uk/digital-camera-brands-Fuji.htm

His prices are excellent and the service is also very good , delivery is free also.

Under £200 I still think my one the finepix 2800 is the best as it has excellent 60 video and sound shoot and we have used that alot..

Even at a recent concert with my daughter for about 50 rows back zoomed right in the sound and video shoot was excellent.

I have a review site saved somewhere I will dig that out for you or search on Google as this is where I first got the tip for Fuji it is called Steves reviews 1000s of reviews..

Happy shopping

Pam

We've had four Fuji digicams, the a303, S602Z and now the F601 and the S2 Pro a DSLR. The a303 is very easy to use and gives good quality pics with 3mp and 3x optical zoom. The 601 is a bit more fiddely and the 602 is probably top of its league, very easy to use. The S2 is a DSLR for which you have to buy independant lenses and gives 12mp output. You can see examples from all these cameras if you look on my home page.

Hi...

Just an alternative suggestion but have you considered a video camera? I use mine for pics... can take frames from moving video or use as a 'camera'. It's pretty much automatic and has one of those fold out screens or use the viewfinder. When using its hit one button to record or another to shoot still pick.

Disadvantage is that when in 'camera' mode to get the better quality I have to wait 9 secs between shots - not ideal. Perhaps a visit to someone like technics to actually try a few cameras out in the shop for ease of use?

As an idea of quality I can get with a vid camera a link here to my dog pics:

Not sure I have done that link right so here it is :

Looking at those Fujis can't say I'm not tempted to go for one myself though. Must have a word with she who must be obeyed ;).

Here you go, they sometimes have more if you call them. A guy at my work has bought a couple from them.

Hi...

Another option maybe Ebay.

[link www.ebay.co.uk] Ebay UK [/link]

I have used it a number of times to good effect, and there are companies as well as private individuals that use it - new and 2nd hand stuff. Would recommend you always check the 'feed back' of the seller before committing.

Regards Dave

ps if I messed the link it's www.ebay.co.uk
