Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Staffies Tails

Hi,
Can someone tell me if it is best to thin out a Staffies tail before a show.
I personally like Toesy's tail how it is, but I've been told for it to look right it needs to be thinned out.
Do other people do this, or do some Staffies naturally have a thinner tail.

Who told you to thin it out? Some people do trim their dogs tails but why not go to the show see how you do and then go from there. Because too trimmed down and they look like rats tails (not what you want)

I have heard mention of this too but never known how to do this or at what stage the tail requires thinning .
If anyone else has an info I too would be interested.

Hi All I trim the underneath of my staffords tails it just keeps them neat.If you lift your dogs tail up at the end you can see that the hair falls down a bit and i trim just a bit off. The first time i had one of my staffords tails trimmed a friend did it for me. Some staffies tails need trimming more than others If in doubt ask as if you do take to much off it can look awful all the best gwen hasweth staffs

Thanks Gwen - at the risk of sounding stupid what do you use to trim and how often do you trim ??
By the way - how are the pups doing ??

i trim me little mutts tail almost every week and at the most once a fortnight
without it he begins to look like an otter
once you start doing it you need to keep it up if you intend to show on a regular basis
it doesnt hurt at all and takes only seconds once you know how to do it

some staffys tend to have a rather fat looking tail and trimming it does make it look thinner and more appealing in the ring

use an electric clippers or if your dog will stand for quite some time whilst your doing it you can use a scissors
but to get the best results you really need a set of electric clippers or a cordless set

p.s.
you only trim underneath
DONT try thinning out the top part of the tail
