Have people seen the changes for Crufts classes for next year? See this KC [link http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk/pressoffice/releases/kcPressRelease.asp?prId=493&page=1&type=undefined&q=undefined]press release[/link] for details. Basically, there is going to be an extra breed class (one for dogs and one for bitches) for each breed for dogs who have passed their bronze good citizen award or higher. What do people think of this?

As Dylan passed his bronze last Sunday, all we have to do now is to qualify for Crufts..... ;)

It does seem rather strange. I passed my bronze last weekend too and she is qualified for Crufts. I assume they are judging it as a breed class as the unbeaten dog rule is in place but I can't see the point if they are.

You didn't pass your bronze at the Birmingham show, by any chance? I was helping in the KCGC ring on the Sunday as it was my training club running it. That's when we passed - in the first demonstration! :D

For the life of me I fail to see where the GS fits into a breed show? Is there going to be a class for GS passes in the obedience ring? or the Gamekeepers ring?

Sorry, it smacks of gimmick to me. Just a way of pushing their own competition.

That's what I thought. Strange having a conformation competition class, when part of the qualification for that class is obedience-based? Just a way of promoting their scheme. I wonder how many will enter these classes?

Yes Sarah it was at Birmingham but on the Saturday, It was more something to do while waiting for my class, we had a large entry which seemed to go on forever.

Still can't see the point of it in the breed ring at Crufts, the test itself had absolutely nothing to do with breed confirmation. It is not open to all that have passed the bronze level as you have had to qualify for Crufts in the normal way.

Perhaps the KC will explain it's thinking behind it.........I expect a long wait!

I also noticed that you can take a dog that is 8 mnths old on the first day of the show, but surely this is impossible? As a dog that is 8 mnths on the first day will only be 6 mnths from the 2nd week of January, yet the entries closing date is 2nd Jan. All very odd or am I just missing something.

My pup will be 6 mnths at the end of Dec - so unless I am mistaken I don't think there is a way of qualifying him - unless I suppose BPIS at an open.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

No you are not missing anything, the last chance to qualify is at LKA on the 12/13th Dec.
Which is good for me as my puppy will just make it as she was born on the 4th June. That's not to say we will quailfy!!!!

LKA is not the last chance to qualify your dog for crufts as you can qualify by winning best in show or best puppy in show at a general open show up to the date of entries closing.

Some breed club championship shows are also held after LKA.

Sorry, always forget about the open shows. Gosh, breed shows just before Christmas!! Always think of LKA being the last chance.
