Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Tails at Crufts???

Is it still the policy of Crufts not to accept Cocker Spaniels with tails for showing. Do they have to be docked?
- By JaneS (Moderator) Date 07.06.01 08:35 UTC
Hello

No Cockers are only customarily docked - there is no KC Rule (or Crufts rule)
that says show Cockers must be docked, although most still are. Last year there were a couple of Cockers at Crufts with full tails - I didn't make it this year so can't comment on this year's entry. You do find most Cocker exhibitors show their dogs with docked tails (it remains a perfectly legal procedure if carried out by a vet) - however, it's not compulsory! I believe the KC will soon be amending the Cocker Breed Standard to include a description of what the tail in an undocked Cocker should look like, as they plan to do for all the customarily docked breeds.

Regards

Jane

The breed standards of all customarily docked breeds theoretically should have already been changed, however, after being assured by the lady at the Crufts shop that the standards they had were the new ones and spending a fortune on a complete new set I was a tad disappointed when opening them to find that wasn't the case. Good job was going back the next day and got my money back! I had an undocked Parson Russell Terrier at Crufts this year and a friend of mine has qualified her 2 undocked Schipperkes for next year also!

Hi Bec,
How did you get on in the breed class ?

Twilly.

I give you one guess bearing in mind Peggy Grayson was judging! Still having said that she did place an undocked Parson 3rd out of 4 in his class!

She can't be all bad then ;-)

Personally I think PG is the tops! I agree with almost everything she says and wish we could go back to the times when she was considered quite the norm, instead of these ridiculous p.c times. Luckily I live a lifestyle, and in a part of the world, where most people are still sensible, and very much like PG herself. Long may she continue!

I agree :-)

**chuckling** hey Twills, you're going to have to tell me all about this judge!
- By Twills [us] Date 09.06.01 00:10 UTC
I will tell you over a glass or two of vino sometime Sierra :-) She is our type of person ...... calls a spade a spade ...... and does not suffer fools gladly ;-)
- By sierra [gb] Date 09.06.01 16:09 UTC
wooooo hooooooo... maybe we can buy her a glass of vino too! I'm still toying with the idea of judging over here. Wanna be my bodyguard? For some reason, Jon thinks that I'd need quick exits!! LOL

Can't believe PG & Sierra would get on, having previously read sierras thoughts on foxhound packs!
- By sierra [gb] Date 09.06.01 22:27 UTC
You know, sam... that's the second time you've brought that up. I happen to love Foxhounds and don't believe that just because they are hounds they should be destroyed and cannot be rehomed.

So, instead of taking pot shots... how about simply telling me just *what* you think my views on foxhound packs are and why they are so abhorrent.

Btw, Twill and I have met and we do get along very well.

Hi Sam,

I happen to disagree with Sierra about the rehoming of FoxHounds but that doesn't mean that we do not "get on" .... it just means that we hold different views on that subject !

Twilly :-)

Sierra, If you want to Judge .... you go for it !
- By sam Date 10.06.01 08:39 UTC
I actually suggested thet PG and Sierra wouldn't get on, not Twilly & Sierra.
I'm still backing PG, especially as she gave me such a great bit of publicity in her DW column 3 weeks ago!!!!
- By Twills [us] Date 10.06.01 08:51 UTC
LOL, and there was me thinking you liked her because you agreed with her Views ;-)

(JOKE SAM !)

Twilly.

I do!!!!!!!!

Have to chuckle again. Just because someone doesn't particularly hold the same views (and Ms. Clark still has not stated what view I hold that Ms. Grayson would find so abhorrent as to not have a common ground in judging or in dogs, I'm at a loss here) that the people in question would not find a great deal in common otherwise.

To decide that because a person holds a view that one is opposed to is the basis for denying friendship tends to be very immature. And I, for one, hope that Ms. Grayson is above that type of behavior. There are others on this board (and others) that hold opposing views with me on several subjects, yet we find a common ground in other dog subjects. As Twilly said, she is one of those and I truly enjoy her company and Alberto!

For the record, my view on foxhounds is this:
a) they are a wonderful breed that I have bred and shown for a number of years in the US;
b) I believe that many of them could successfully be rehomed rather than unilaterly destroyed;
c) I would dearly love to have one over here and will eventually import one.

So much for those unstated views (which by virtue of not being named could have been imagined to be really horrific!).

My tuppence once more.... **chuckling** this board is getting expensive!
