Hi,

If your pup has Colitis, Beta is not a good food to choose as they change the ingredients regularly and the quality of ingredients is also not good.

I would recommend either changing him to Naturediet, Nutro or James Wellbeloved, which are all natural foods which have good quality ingredients especially formulated for dogs with dodgy tummies.

Hi there,

You could go down the 'raw' route. I know that is seems crazy but a lot of dogs with colitis do very well on it.

Thanks but i dont really want to silly i know but dont like the idea plus a caveleir owner told me not to she did however say that chappie or tinned butchers is good along with some bran but i tried so many pet stores for this bran cant seem to get it anybody know any web sites i can get it from? appreciate it

The bran is the same you can buy for rabbits I would think most pet stores should stock it or health food shops=not the breakfast cereal tho' :)

hi,
my cavalier gets colitis, if given or picked up wrong foods..
never give him anything rich what so ever, anyway have you tried lamb & rice (wet) if not get some nutrifyba from your vet it is the only place you can get it ( suprised they never offered you this ) it is a very fine bran ''looks abit like crushed weetabix'' sprinkle a bit on the dinner ,this should help it worked for my boy..
now he very rarley gets it at all(only if someone gives him human biscutes or cheese) he now eats pedigree chum lamb&rice some say this is rich, but my boy gets on with it, also butchers choice lamb/rice...
good luck !!!

You do not have to go raw to put him on a food regime that could help with persistent colitis. I make my own (cooked) dog food and once in a while will add a dry complete to the mix for variety. There are several books that you can buy which have recipes for dog food. The Burns web site has a recipe for homemade dog food and I am sure there are lots more recipes you could find with a quick Web search.

Thanks for the info just that the vet told me that most dry foods contain wheat and cereals which trigger colitis and beta was most definatley one of them and to get him off it straight away i think a vet with 30years experience is one to trust so i will look into what youve said thanks again

My Dandie who has a history of colitis has done very well for several years on Beta. When a manufacturer changes the ingredients of a complete food they have to advertise the fact on the packaging 'new recipe' for instance, I cannot recall Beta ever doing that.

My parents' 10-year old Cav was diagnosed with colitis a few years ago: they feed her Hill's lamb and rice tins along with some pro-fibre granules (not sure who makes the latter) both of which they order through their vets. Not cheap, but seems to have done the trick.

yes Rosmarie, i think you may be on about nutrifyba which i stated above !!!
about 15.00 pound a tub !!
