Buster is 11 months old now and about three months ago lost interest in his afternoon feed, then his lunchtime one, and now is on just one big meal a day in the evening. Is this okay, seeing as he is still very young? I'm worried that it's no good for his digestive system, just eating once a day at his age, he has treats when he's out for a walk but that's nothing much to speak of, the odd biscuit and garlic sausage, but even if he's had nothing for whatever reason, doesn't seem to want to eat at any other time of day. I maybe worrying about nothing, would like some reassurance/suggestions.

Hi Nicki,
You don't mention what breed Buster is. I feed my dogs twice a day, as most of them are large breeds, and feeding once a day increases the risk of gastric torsion in the larger breeds. Split his daily rations into two meals, and leave the first meal (usaully morning) down for 10 minutes, if it hasn't been eaten in this time, remove it, and don't give him anything else till the evening. If you repeat this, he'll soon get the idea!!
Hope this helps you.
Sarah.

Am I right in thinkng Buster is a Staffy ?
Gus ( also a Staffy) is 10 months now and has lost interest in his meals too. He hs a small breakfast , a small dinner and tea but tends to just nibble at them unless we add his favourite - tripe) and then he wolfs the lot . I wondered if maybe Gus was just fed up with dried food but maybe it is his age and he doesnt need as many meals ;)

I would certainly have a 10 month old pup on only two meals a day.
My lot get 4 meals a day to around 12 weks then 3 a day to 6 months, and two a day from 6 months to a year. then one meal a day, or continue with two if that suits you and the dog.
my breed is about 20kg and 19+ 1/2 inches at the shoulder as adults (bitches that is, dogs are about inch taller and half stone heavier).

Hi everyone, yes Buster is a Staff - he's not losing weight and is quite a fit dog, and like you say lel, he tends to even nibble at his evening meal but will work his way slowly through most of it, I have heard that Staffies are not generally greedy dogs ... thanks for all your advice.
