Hi
I have just been offered a 9 wk old puppy with an hare lip ,her owner has taken her to the vets
and the vet said they can operate on her but it will cost and there is no guarantee it will be a
successful, the hare lip doesn`t appear to be causing a problem at the moment.but i need to
know will it cause any problems in the long run,as i would love to have and give her a loving home.
I have already have 2 shih tzu, but i don`t anything about hare lips as my dogs are pets.
thanks Joe

Hi,

I would recomend you ask the breeder if you could take the pup to your own vet and see what they say. Ask for an honest opinion and see what they say.

My breeder had a pup born with a hairlip and no cleft pallet very fortunate there and he lived. By the time the new owners (pet home) came to see him they couldn't even notice his hairlip just a faint line is all you could see. He is now over a year old and as healthy as a horse, they send pics of him to her.

I agree to have the pup looked at by your vet and see what they think. Does the pup have a cleft pallet also or just a hairlip? I had one born with both and the cleft pallet wasn't to bad but the hairlip went right up to his nose like his lil nostrills were seperated, my vet said that it may close as he grows but if not then would require surgery. I had a friend that was going to take him but sadly he did not make it.

ttfn :)
