I must be a world authority on dog allergies (only joking) but My min schnauzer has had problems
with allergies since he was six months,he is now 8 1/2 years old.
Three years ago he had a blood test and the main thing he was allergic to was dust mites,
a vaccine was made and he has had an injection each month which has kept that at bay,he does not blow up now but is still allergic to other things which causes scratching and red parts on his skin,we find that piriton is very good but occasionally we have to give him predisolone steroid,we have tried everything now from changing his food to Denes and Burns which are free from all colorings, preservatives etc.
has anyone else got this problem and what have they done?

Hiya, my weimaraner that I rehomed last year was tested allergic to soya, wheat, oats, maize, potato and beef; since I feed raw this is not a problem and since I have had him he has had no ear infections which used to be chronic.
This year he had a couple of episodes of difficulty breathing, collapse etc; I thought he might have laryngeal paralysis but on having him scoped and x rayed he showed damage consistent with asthma. He was put on a bronchial dilator and the vet wanted to put him on steroids however I visited a homoeopath and his problems have virtually disappeared. Perhaps this might be a viable option for you? The vet gave me a 1 1/2 consultation and prescribed 3 pills in 24 hours and 2 pills 3 weeks later; it also has tackled his behavioural problems.
I have not bothered to get him allergy tested for environmental factors as the chances of me removing these are remote :)
