I am writing to post a question to all the breeders out there,I have had two Alsatians and have pointed out the difference between an Alsatian and German shepherd,an alsatian has 4 straight legs, not a sloping back and a german shephered according to my understanding has the lower back which when they get older affects the back hips?can somebody explain the difference because I have noticed the difference and both my dogs(Alsatians)have come from breeding stock and are not crossed with anything else

There is no difference, they are all German Shepherd Dogs, (GSD) they were only called Alsatians during the World Wars to stop people taking their hatred of the Germans out on the dogs, we have grown up a bit since then.
Any difference you see in your dogs is because of different breeding, the dogs bred in or from German dogs look somewhat different than those who have a British background. When you consider that during the 2 WW and after, cross breeding would not have taken place. That would be between about 1916 to the mid 1950 and no doubt somewhat latter, it is not surprising that the 2 separate sets of dogs would be bred with a somewhat different aim in mind, hence the fact that they appear to be 2 different types.
This is not confined to the GSD other breeds have the same sort of differences but some breeds now interbreed to try and return the breed to the type seen in it's country of origin. This does not appear to be happening in the GSD hence the different types.
