As she will by then be nearing 8 years I would have thought the chances were quite high.

At her age she needs to rest Bullmastiffs dont live very long lives anyway i think it wrong to breed from her now poor girl.

I agree, she is too old to have more even if she had never had problems and if over 8 when she whelps , the puppies wont be able to be registered anyway.

If she is six now (and might only just be six?) she may be 6 or 7 for her next litter - why is everyone assuming she will be over 8 or am I misreading it?

Uterine inertia can have many causes - very small litter with not enough pups to prompt the labour to start,s econdary inertia where labour stops half way though. There are so many causes that I would not think anyone could answer your question with the information available and even then it could be difficult.

I would think very carefully about why you want her to have another litter remembering that a bitch's life is at a certain risk every time she whelps and having already suffered this once she could well do so again

Sorry I did read it wrongly - I thought it had said she was six when she had a litter a couple of years ago - which would have made her 8ish now - she isn't. Apologies. Even so if she is 6 now and has had a litter this year, I still think its time to pack in trying. Rgardless of age inertia is alway quite likely to happen again, especially primary inertia.

I assumed that as she had a litter this year, her 6th, that she would be at least 7 when she had the next, be it just 7 or 7 1/2 she is nearly 8 and if she has had primary inertia with this litter I would have thought the chances of having it again was high. Don't know how many litters she has had to date but it is at least 2 and under the circumstance I would have thought enough was enough.

May be if the breeder is about to loose the line and can’t pick it up from a son or daughter, then maybe, with the utmost care, she could be bred again. But if she was mine it would have to be very very important.

Hello
I had a bitch that had Primary intertia. Its a really long storey and I wont go into details. It was a Weimaraner and her third litter. She had 6 healthy puppies, and our quick thinking and bullying our vet made her do a c.section and saved her and the pups. (because they did not know it was intertia and we did)...
I asked for her to be spayed after this. She would of been spayed anyway.
Even if she had of had one litter and had P.I, I would not of bred her again.
I asked two vets about P.I and they both said the same that if a bitch has this then she could get it again and next time not be so lucky. It is better to have them spayed.
Now I spoke to a breeder (not a weim breeder), and they told me that they breed from their bitches again even if having P.I.
But I cant think its fair at all. Its your choice of course.
I can honestly say that if any of my dogs ever had anything that was going to cause problems in the pups or her I would never breed her.

It is true that it may have been caused by the fact that she only had 2 puppies, but I still think if you do attemped another litter in about a year you may have trouble of some sort. Think this is one of the cases when mating at the next season may be best for the bitch and produce a better result.
