I have a nine month old working cocker. A great pup; very intelligent and active. Enjoys working and has free hunted very well. He has been hupped on the leash very succesfully and is steady when I move away off the leash in an enclosed space. He is also learning to drop to the whistke very well. When released from the leash in open space he will not hup and lies on his back in an almost comical way.

Otherwise he is coming along well and is a very well behaved pup generally.

Does nayone have nay thoughts on how to encourage him to drop when off the leash?

Hi,

I have a 4 month old Working Cocker, this breed is new to me (we have bearded collies), but I have done quite a bit of research on them and they are a great breed. I have got mine for obedience and mini agility and her training is coming on really well.

Right, to help with your question (maybe), at about 9 months old, your Cocker is going through the teenage period, this is the time when hormones are on the go, they start to try your patience and get up to all sorts of terrible things - bit like a human teenager.

This will get better sometime between 18 months and 2 years (approx) and you will probably find that he will come back to training and pick up where he left off and suddenly start to work for you at about this age. Be patient and don't get cross with him.

Good luck
