can dogs feel nettle stings? lol 2 evry 1 out there =)
- By John [gb] Date 28.08.03 08:27 UTC
The short answer to that is yes, at least in places. The coat keeps the nettles away from the body on most breeds but a Dalmatian I used to own regulaly came home with a nettle rash after investigating smells is stinging nettles. My Lab Anna has shaken her face after retrieving from nettles.

They must be attractive to Dalmatians LOL. My Dalmatian fell in a ditch full of them once, and from the screaming going on when he came out, believe me they can feel it. I thought he had hurt himself until a few minutes later he was covered in lumps, I did feel sorry for him.
Mind you if he had come back when I called him he wouldn't have got himself in that situation, but that's another story.

A spotty Dalmation is not a pretty sight, is it Sandra ;) It never stopped mine from going back into them though! No brain!

Best wishes, John

Oh John, they have a brain, I have never had such a brainy dog.....and I have always had Border Collies. Trouble is they only use it for their own gains....he is the first dog I have had that can open a door inwards, just so he can get to the food left on the worksurface....or other dogs dinner......or anything food related actually, it is amazing what that brain can work out!!

Never had a dog that could make me laugh so much either, even if I should be crying at times!

That's so true, Sandra! They can learn to do anything - but only on their terms! If there is no clear benefit to them, then you might as well do it yourself, because they certainly won't! It takes a certain mindset to understand them.

I am sure my puppies have been stung by nettles by the way they jump out of a patch -but it doesn't seem to affect the older ones who are generously covered with coat.

The homoeopathic remedy Urtica Urens will help with nettle stings.
