Topic Dog Boards / Health / Bleading after puppy needles have fallen

Hello all, yep you've guessed it...me again ;-)
Bobby, my Staff, is becomming a big boy now, all of his front top and bottom puppy teeth have been replaced with adult teeth, however in the last 2 days his gums around each tooth have started to bleed; I am concerned and think I should take him to the vet. Has anyone else experienced this adn is it something missing from his diet, too much in his diet, gum disease or just normal?

Spent ages wondering what puppy needles were, what a good description. Would think your boy may have been playing tug games with someone or even on his own, but if you notice it again I would take him to make sure it is not an infection of the gums. Not sure tug games are a good idea whilst the teeth are changing well only with an adult anyway.

EDIT: just seen you say it has been like it for 2 day, perhaps a trip to the vet may be the best plan.

Hi,

You do not say how old Bobby is or when his milk teeth fell out. The gums can bleed while the adult teeth are coming through and they can stay tender for a while afterwards. If Bobby has been doing a lot of chewing or tugging his gums may bleed a little bit.

If he's had his adult teeth for a while and his gums have started bleeding, he is not doing an usual amount of chewing on hard objects, then I would check with the vet.

Thanks Jackie & Stacey!

Bobby is 19 Weeks and the last of his front adult teeth came through at the end of last week. He has been more chewy than normal. This morning when I woke him up he had a gunky right eye; maybe something got in his eye when he was wlking in the field last night, but perhaps I should take him to the vet...just to be sure!
