Due to family illness I have ended up with 2 ten week old pups.(I only meant to have one!) We are thrilled and enjoying them very much. We are experienced owners of single dogs but have never house trained etc two at a time. Does anyone have any tips?

Both are girls and one is much bigger, noisier and more dominant than her sister.(She barks all the time!) How do I ensure that the little one gets her share of the food when they insist on eating from one bowl? Should I be worried by the fighting which is constant and seems loud and aggressive? They are toy poodles.

Hi Gee,
Why don't you register - I think you're going to need all the help you can get :) It's obviously not the best situation to be in, I think having one puppy and trying to train that is difficult enough, without there being two! But don't despair, I can't help you with any tips for raising two puppies, but it's good that you've come here and asked for help, I'm sure that there will be much more experienced people along later, with lots of advice and tips for you.
Good Luck

I agree, I think you would find it useful to register. I would separate the dogs whilst they were feeding but I don't really have any experience of handling two pups at the same time. If you register, lots of people will respond I am sure.

Welcome to the club!!!

One pup is hard work: Two pups are hard work x 10!!! This I know from our experience at the beginning of the year, when we kept two puppies from the same litter.

I would definitely split them when you feed them: that way you will know that they are both eating properly. If possible, if you have a partner/son/daughter/friend who can work with you, each deal with 1 pup - and that pup only, so that within a few days Puppy 1 recognises that Mum brings dinner, and Puppy 2 recognises that Dad brings dinner. Feed them at the same time of course!

Use the same method (if it is possible) for walking/training - it is impossible for 1 person to train 2 puppies at once! (Well, okay someone might be able to - but I certainly couldn't - and nor would I attempt it !)

Whilst it IS hard work, it can be done - you do have your work cut out to make sure that the pups don't bond so well with each other that they have difficulty in bonding with you!

Our "piddles" are now coming up for 10 months - and adolescence - which now means more fights, because Vinnie (female) is trying to show her superiority to Beau (male) - but he's stronger than her so every so often she starts something and then its "yelp yelp scream - mum he's hitting me!" :D :D :D

We're on to her little game, though, so she gets told off as well!

Have registered now and see I'll have loads to ask in the future. Thanks for the advice just now. We'll give it a go with dad feeding one and mum feeding the other!
