hiya my name is Laura and i adore animals especially dogs and cats, when i was younger (i'm 18yrs old now) i had a nasty allergic reaction to fur, but grew out of it when i was around six or seven. so when i moved out of my mother's into a new home with my partner he bought me a moggy kitten, i was so attached to her then i got a new job when she was 5 months old, so we both decided to get another cat to keep her company from 9 to 5. we got another cat but a male he was younger but by the time we had selected a new cat she was 11.5 months old, this cat was 5 months old they got on well everyday and i was happy. but a friend bought me a late birthday gift which turned out to be a 4 week old kitten1 i was shocked as this kitten depended on me every five minutes it took me along time (3 weeks) to get my female cat to help as she was jealous! after that the two cats played and took care of there new friend, so i wasn't going to get the kitten a new home until one day i had to rehome all three as i had a bad allergic reaction and asthama attack i miss them all and my partner and i have decided to get a dog but with hair as i have had dogs before at home with my mother. can anyone give me some sort of list that can tell me what breeds i can have as a companion. i have had a white west highland terrier and i wouldn't really want another i don't like to get the same breeds and also he had alot of growths and other illnesses i couldn't go threw losing a dog like i had to when i was young like i did again. thank you for reading this i really appreciate it thanks again.

Firstly..Your friend was very irresponsible giving you a 4 week old kitten. That is far too young, and pets as gifts are not a good idea.
Also, regarding the dog, in old dogs, you often find growths and lumps and bumps..it is nothing specific to westies, so if you dont like that then dont get one.

Secondly....are you working all day? If so, is it really a good idea to get a dog which will need you around?
Im sorry, but I dont think you are a very suitable candidate for a dog (or a cat really). I think perhaps you should get a goldfish or a hamster. Im not trying to be horrible, but a comment like "and also he had alot of growths and other illnesses" is just totally irresponsible. If you cant handle a dog being ill...or just an aging dog..then deffinatly re-think it. Whats wrong with getting the same breed??

A dog is not a fashion accessory or something to say you have. They are very dependent creatures. They can live for up to 20 years depending on the breed and they cost a lot of money. At the age of 18..can you and your partner afford it? Who will be there for it?
I hate to say it, but if you went to a breeder and said what you have said on here...you wouldnt stand a chance.

Sorry, not what you want to hear..but its the truth im afraid.

p.s, what happens if you suddenyl develope a reaction to the dog?? You were fine with the cat fpr a while..you cant just go getting animals and then re-homing them, you have to be sensible about this.
