Topic Dog Boards / Health / Brain Scan In Young Dog
- By crtt [gb] Date 26.08.03 18:01 UTC
I have a dog who I have had for 3 months now, and he has a lot of behavioural problems. He is 18 months old and came from a shelter. We got a good behaviourist in and they said that given the nature of his behaviour and the way he acts it apparently reminded them of a dog who was later found to have a brain tumour. We are still working with the behaviourist but they said to get a brain scan done to find out since things only seem to be getting worse.

Obviously a scan is expensive, and I was wondering if other people had heard of a dog so young with a brain tumour. I thought this only happened to old dogs. I didn't question the behaviourist about it because I didn't want to come across as doubting of their abilities/knowledge...can anyone help? :(

I knew a young dog about 15 years ago that was put to sleep just before his second birthday as his temperament had got so aggressive, it got to the point where no one could get close without fear of being bitten. A post mortem showed a brain tumour.

I hope your story has a happier ending, in cases like these I am always reminded of the dog who was put to sleep and was found after to have a pencil stuck down his ear - presumably by a small child,

All the very best

Hayley
