Horncastle and District Open Show today
Phoebie (20 months Golden Retriever) entered in Graduate. Told husband I'd be home by lunch as not expecting to get anywhere as generally a good entry and her age against her now.
Get to show and her breeder comes to watch - as Phoebie has been a bit flat with it all I've not been doing much with her at all and this was the last show we had entered as I'd decided she needed a break. Anyway asked breeder to take her in for me to see how she was and she showed her socks off.
She won her class then took Best of Breed too !!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D
Decided to stay for BIS and was took her in myself as breeder had to go and we were shortlisted to the final 8 or so !! By that time she was a bit flatter and although she stood like a good 'un her movement was good but not with enough enthusiasm. Still thrilled to bits though !!!
Had a chance to speak to the judge who had done the breed classes (a lab man) and he said that although she isn't flashy at all she is a good sound example of a bitch :)
So now I am hurridly looking for the breed club entry form that I think closes tomorrow as maybe we won't pack it in just yet ;)
Just got to hope that the notes get in the papers and I had her picture taken as well coz she is looking good :D
SaraW and my little Star Phoebie xx

Well done:D :D :D Really pleased for you and although it's hard work isn't it nice when someone else (especialy the judge) see's in your dog what you do.
Karen

Well done Sara, sometimes it's not the flash that wins, all you need is a judge that goes for a good honist bitch, to my mind no amount of flash makes up for poor conformation so there you are BOB, bet you never expected that. Thought I had entered Horncastle, if I had bit late now.
Rush to the post box tomorrow girl and don't forget the proof of posting. Look out Crufts here we come.

Thanks everyone :D
I was gobsmacked to say the least and I think some of the other exhibitors were too lol ;)
I can't see you in the catalogue Jackie - it was Sue Birney who took BIS with her GBGV and well deserved it was too with a lovely Border terrier taking reserve.
I can't find the schedule but I am throwing papers all over to track it down - I really ought to be more organised lol

Well done Sue too, not seen her about much of late but saw in the Dog World that she has or is importing an orange with someone else, have seen Sylvia about with her youngster and very well she is doing too.
If you don't find the schedule then phone the club secretary and see if they will take an entry over the phone or by fax. Keep looking.

Well done Sara and Phoebe!!
If you can't find the breed club show schedule, you could always try phoning the show secretary to send you another- most breed clubs will accept show entries a few days late. In fact, it seems like the general champ shows will now as well- I know a couple of people who have sent their entries in a week late and still been accepted!
Congratulations- have yourself a large drink to celebrate!

I can't find it so am off to work in the morning armed with the phone number of the breed club sec and a blank generic form to fill in and send if they give me the class details and cost :)
Hopefully I'll get it sorted coz I really really want to enter now

Sara - How fantastic!!!
Good luck - I think you can (almost) use any entry form, as long as you enter the correct name of the show you are entering and the correctr Class no - & make the cheque out to the correct competition:D

lol - the funniest bit was my bag was empty nearly coz I expected to be leaving there by about 10.30 coz we were first in the ring and it was only local lol
I had to buy some food for Pheebs coz I never took any and I had to beg some bait for the afternoon coz we'd used my jelly babies up in the breed class ;)

lol Diane :D
She has been flat at the last 4 shows or so - honest. Bored with it - not unhappy but not that bothered either.
Yesterday though she was like she used to be - happy, tail wagging and perky. Cooler weather suits her better and I do feel that the lack of ringcraft and only 2 shows in the last 3 months has helped perk her up again and re sparked her interest a little :)
I think I've got the entry sorted for the breed champ show which is Oct 11th (I think that's the date lol) so I may do nothing before it - I'd rather she misbaheved at it than was robotic.
Hope to see you soon
Sara :)
