Hi,

I have a 6 year old Dobe that has hip dysplasia. Can anyone recommend treatment. Have considered hydro therapy so any advise on this would be appreciated.

Thanks
Sandra

You could try this... http://www.synoquin.com/

Do I understand that he is having a problem with his hips, as a large number of dogs have some level of dysplasia that cause no problem and need no treatment. Perhaps you will let us know if he is in pain and what treatment the vet has suggested.

Hi, Thanks for getting in touch. Basically she is very stiff in her hips and has problems walking. When she goes out, she only walks a short distance and then has to lie down for a rest (but she still manages to muster up energy to chase the odd bike or 2 !). She does not appear to be in any pain as such, but you can tell that she does suffer somewhat. Unfortunately she also suffers with thyroid problems (another common Doberman problem). We have tried some supplements recommeded by the vet (not sure which though as the dog lives with my parents), but none so far have helped. We are now thinking of hydro therapy and from what we have read, it is very effective.

Hi Sandie

If the Soloxin dose is correct this should correct her thyroid levels within a few weeks although it can take a few months to get the levels perfect and may need regular testing (to be done at a certain time between or after dosage) to help with this. Then 4 month testing is advised to make sure the dosage is correct.

*Unless* she is vWD affected when the thryoid drugs can cause problems - do you know her von Willebrand Disease status? Not all vet's are aware of this.

I replied to you private post re her hips but having read your message above are you sure it is hip dysplasia that is the problem?
