I am interested in finding out more information on what happens to any brown and white Newfoundlands when they are born. I have been told that because they are not breed standard that they are put to sleep. Is this true ?

There was one on a TV series recently, so they certainly aren't all put to sleep!

Would have thought it unlikely that many are cuddled, although it is possible, there would be a good pet market for the miss marked or miss colour as there would be no health problem with a brown & white. The nicest Newfie I have ever seen was a Brown & White and the marking was nigh on perfect, something you don't see very often in Landseers. Shame they are not recognised but I guess the Newfie people have there reasons and may be they will come onto this thread and tell us why.

In my own breed all the hounds in this country are grey, any shade but always grey, but in Europe they are also accepted in Black or White and the Swedish are I believe black & white. Now I mention this because I can imagine the outcry if someone tried to show anything but a grey and then tried to change the standard as it is in the UK. We would not like it and I guess the same goes for the Newfie people.

'unlikely that many are cuddled' :D :D I'm willing to bet they are :D :D

You may be correct, but as they must have a value of at least £800 + I would be surprised. One would have to be very ashamed of having produced one to do so. Would some Newfie people tell me what is so terrible about a brown & white, if what is being said is true. Can understand putting a dog with a disability down, but not a miss mark, particularly now one has TV fame must have put the price of a pup up to make it worth raising it, the breed would have no trouble homing it I'm sure. Maybe Isabel is just a cynic

I think Isabel was jesting because you wrote Cuddled and not Culled ;)
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 25.08.03 11:08 UTC
Oh I can't tell the difference. ;) Sorry Isabel I suffer with that word that begins with Dy. and I have to use a spell check and I have know idea if that is right of not. And I don't care, by my age you have heard all the quips going and have got used to being the but of jokes. :)
- By Isabel Date 25.08.03 11:10 UTC
Then heaven help your husband :D

Edited Just read the rest you added, its certainly not a quip about your spelling I make that sort of slip up myself its just the funniness of those particular two words getting mixed up, sorry if that doesn't tickle you like it tickles me

Oh he is used, speaks my language, ;) can always run him through the word processor, before approaching. Have a dictionary propping open the door because even though it is a large one it is no use to me, if you don’t know the first 3 letters you can’t use a dictionary.

EDIT No it is funny but I suppose I am used to it, no offence taken. Belive it or not I earn a fair bit of cash by writting and I bet my English teacher, who always gave me a minus mark, is turning in their grave.

Oh Lord, we are still on two different wavelengths :) I meant if he was expecting a cuddle and got culled instead :D Sorry! :D
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 25.08.03 11:23 UTC
Did understand, need to watch the grammar now, for "is turning in their graves" read are turning. Must be doing summersaults by now. :D
- By Isabel Date 25.08.03 11:34 UTC
:D I agree with you, by the way, no-one is going to cull a puppy worth several hundred pounds to a pet home, especially if they are cuddly ;)
