Hi
I wonder if anyone has any recipies for dog food that are low protein? My dog is 8 months old and she is a bit of a rufty tuffty :D It has been suggested that we try reducing the protein in her diet to see if this helps calm her down a bit.
She will not eat shop bought dog food, believe me I have tried em all and usually end up throwing away half the pack, so for some time now Ive been making my own organic dog food which she loves, I follow recipies that I find on the internet, but am not too clear on what would be a low protien but tasty meal.
I'd be very grateful if anyone has a recipie :)

Pitcairn's book, Natural Health for Dogs and Cats, lists recipes with the protein content and all other nutritional content.
I make my own dog's food also and I would just cut slightly back on the amount of meat added to the mix. Mine mix is usually rice, chicken and veg with a capsule of rose hip oil and added bone meal.
Have you tried Nature Diet? I believe they have a senior version and it looks like home cooked food to me. Have not tried it myself, but certainly would do in a pinch.

Hi Stacey,
I would like to start feeding recipes out of Pitcairns book, but have no idea where to get all the stuff to add to them, such as bonemeal (of edible quality), nutritional yeast, kelp powder, lecithin granules.... Where do you get yours from?
Thanks.
Hi,
i get all of the ingredients you listed from the health food shop.

Hi,
I see you got lots of answers in your other post re sourcing supplements.
I do not follow Pitcairn exactly. I do cook the meat. I do not use all the supplements he suggests because I do not think they are necessary. I do, however, supplement with ground bone meal (I buy it at Pets at Home) because I do not feed raw bones.
What I used Pitcairn for mostly was to understand how much meat to use versus vegetables and grains. The only grain I use is rice because my dog seems to do so well on it.
