Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Toilet training question...

My GSP is 16 weeks old and has been fully housed trained for about 5-6 weeks with no accidents whatsoever.

When housetraining him, I rewarded him for doing his business in the garden, with lots of praise and a treat for being a clever boy.

However, now he won't do his business anywhere other than in the garden!

I've stopped giving him praise and treats for his garden visits and have praised him highly on the very rare occassion that he has did it outside. The poor thing thinks that the garden is the only place he can do his business, he must be so confused that I have stopped the treats!

I've spent literally hours out on long walks with him, knowing that he must need the toilet, yet he does nothing. As soon as we get home, he goes straight away and relieves himself. His poor bladder must have been bursting!

He then comes running over to me with a "what a good boy I am!" look on his face.

How can I teach him that the garden was an "interim" solution prior to him being fully vaccinated?

Lots of people have had this problem :) It WILL happen at some point ..he WILL go somewhere other than in the garden eventually :) If you use a word everytime he *goes* like Hurryup* so that he begins to associate the word with the action , then you could maybe use that word when you are out ..but whether you do or don't , he will twig one day :) He is only a baby yet

Melody :)
