AFTER READING BACK OVER PREVIOUS POSTS CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN WHAT THE RULES ARE REGARDING STUD BOOK NUMBERS? AND WHAT THEY ARE FOR (I FEEL A COMPLETE MUPPET HAVING TO ASK).
ALSO WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN WHEN A DOG IS REFFERRED TO IN A PAPER SUCH AS DW/OD AS "BEING CAMPAIGNED".

Hi She, Stud book numbers are awarded to dogs and bitches that have 'won' at a certain level. The criteria are variable depending upon your breed, and therefor which stud band the breed comes into. My Irish Setter has a stud book number, and in that breed a 1st 2nd or 3rd in Limit and in Open classes at Championship Shows qualifies a dog for it's stud book number. Stud book numbers entitle a dog to be shown at Crufts without annual qualification as is otherwise neccessary.
If a dog is 'being campaigned', it is generally understood that the dog is being extensively shown in the expectation that it will eventually be 'made up'.(become a champion).

Hi She, I think you might have to e-mail the Kennel Club and ask them which stud band your breed comes into, I'm sure the info will be available somewhere, but I'm not sure where. Perhaps another of the regulars will be along soon and let you know. Sorry.

In my breed which is shown in far fewer numbers than Irish setters only winning a CC, RCC, JW (not sure about the new ShCM) and 1st or 2md in the Open Class. It is a mark of quality, as few dogs reach their title. A dog with a stud book number would be expected to be a good exhibit to have won at that level.

Oops, forgot all about CCs and res CCs, never won one and don't suppose I ever will, of course they also qualify for the stud book number.

Gundogs can also qualify for a stud book number at a Field Trial. This award will be allocated on the dogs abilities to do a set job of work and not on 'looks' alone. Having said that, said dog can then enter Crufts if it should wish to do so.
