I have a 2year old Samoyed that I rescued from a breeder. I have just looked at her teeth and they are
covered in plaque/tarter very hard and her gums are a bit red. Is going to the vet the only option.to get them clean.

Vets is one option the othere as i have found out is rawhide shoes there are great for removing tarter. My 6yr would not chew until would got our pup so now i do not have to pay £150 plus for teeth. Also if the rawhide works or even denta rasks but rawhide is bit then try and brush the dogs teeth reguarly this helps against the next lot of build up
I would get them checked out by a vet....mainly because if the dog is really only 2, its teeth should not be in such a bad state. a vet would tell you why they are so bad, e.g vitamin deficiencies, or even infections. is there any sign of pain? can it eat hard things, do its gums bleed?

Hi,
I used a cheap battery toothbrush and Tea Tree Toothpaste on my dogs teeth when I discovered that the food he was eating was making his teeth mucky (brown, tartared and plaque yuk) I also gave him large bones to chew on and changed his food until I found one that didn't make his teeth brown. It takes a few weeks to tell if a type/brand of food is helping to keep the teeth clean or making it worse.
Hope this helps
Regards
Dill
