I would be beginning to worry about primary inertia by now. Is it possible for you to speak to the vet on the phone tonight and ask whether he feels he should see your bitch tonight or if it is safe to leave until the morning. Hopefully everything is fine but having just lost a singleton pup who was thought to have been dead for 12 to 24 hours before a Caesarian was performed I would rather err on the side of caution and consult the vet earlier rather than later.

Good luck

Hi i have bullmastiffs so i know how lazy they are when it comes to whelping, you need to get your vet to come to the house to see her if she isnt in distress in any way and all seems okay with her then dont panic, has she been doing any thing because from what you have said there doesnt seem to be much to worry about. is her discharge clear and it depends how many times you mated her as to when it is 63 days? hope this helps abit but i would get my vet out to give her a check up AT HOME.(TONIGHT)

hi ya its debb with the bullmastiff her discharge is clear and she was mated more than once.she doesnt seem to be in any distress is still waggin her tail.but she is huge can hardly walk.her breathing is fast and short put not panting, she also has eaten some chicken for tea.still no bed shredding what do you think? debb

As you have had more than one mating then your bitch is most probably not really overdue. it sounds as though she is getting near time now to start. It is quite normal for a bitch to go a couple of days early of 63 days and some go a couple of days later.I would keep your eye on her this evening and keep her as comfortable as possible.you say her breathing is fast and short so she may be starting the first stage of her labour. good luck

HI Deb just what Paxo said keep a close eye on her dont go and leave her on her own because it will be any time now she will have the first stages of being restless licking ripping beding some panting looking to see what is there which is the pup moving down just keep her calm and make sure she is in her whelping pen best of luck keep in touch and i will try to help you keep vets number on hand just in case you need to talk him/her.

I've just been through exactly the same thing as you, and everything turned out ok in the end. Keep your Vet involved (mine doesn't charge for telephone advice thank god!) My bitch went to 68 days! and they can go even longer. When mine was obviously in Labour and a pup hadn't arrived after two hours I was talked through checking that there was no blockage in the birth canal (thank god for surgical gloves and KY jelly). There was a blockage and thanks to my vet I lost only one pup (and still feel guilty) but the rest are fine. Best of luck to you fingers crossed that you and mum will be fine.
