Hi,
I am the proud owner of a gorgeous puli cross (puli x SBT). She is an amazing dog. I am wondering if anyone else out there owns or has owned a puli cross.

Well at least the rest of the litter I suppose.
I really can't belive that anyone with a Puli would deliberatly cross, so it must have been an accident, glad your pup is lovely and I hope he is a joy for years. But the posibility of a coat problem must be very high.

It was an intentional cross. They both had healthy dogs with good temperaments, loved their dogs and had good homes for almost all of the pups planned. I lost the breeders details so I cannot contact the other puppies. As far as I know they all got loving homes. I was looking for a sbt cross at the time and heard about these pups. Mine hasn't had any coat problems but she didn't get a full puli coat. Its more like a very rough terrier coat. She seems to have gained great traits from both parents. Good with children, very agile and lively, hysterically funny, scary smart, obedient and reliable wherever we take her. She's a great watchdog and gets on fabulously with our older dog and cats. We love her to pieces and would love to hear from anyone else who has had puli crosses to hear their experiences.

Is this a sales pitch? What was wrong with a pure SBT? Intentional breeding? one word....WHY?

Have to say that the traits this puppy has are the same as both the breeds mentioned, so what was the point. Quess this is a wind up and will shut up now before Mel comes and slaps my wrists.

Jackie .......you are old enough to slap your own wrists dear :)

No, its not a sales pitch at all. I am genuinely trying to find other puli x owners. My bitch is spayed and I do not want to breed or sell dogs. I just love her a lot. Sorry if that sounds like a sales pitch to you. The reason I wanted a SBT cross is because I have always had them. I just happen to like most of the traits of the SBT, but like a bit of something else. Just a personal preference.

In my mind, if you choose a dog then you choose it for its breed traits, and, if a working dog, what it was bred for. If its a good example of the breed, and if you are committed and if you have got all the back up you need to breed and IF you have good homes waiting, then why not look for a good example of the dog in the same breed - not just have a chat with a mate with a totally different breed and think "wouldn't it be sweet to let them have a litter"
Thats a romantic view of dog breeding, which fits in with the current market trends, i.e advertising for a "single stud dog, must have GSOH".
Each to their own - I just can't see the point in producing puppies from two completely unrelated breeds! :)

Thats fair enough Chloe. My own preference happens to be for cross breeds although I have had a couple of rescued pure bred dogs in the past. But there would never be any new breeds, or any uniquely different dogs if no one chose to cross breed. I would like to think I set the same standards when choosing my dog as anyone else would. I met the mother and father who had been given relavent health checks. Both had good temperaments. The pups were raised around children and other animals in a clean and busy household. I couldn't have asked for more. Most people who meet my bitch ask me what breed she is as they think she is so lovely that they would like one just like her, but I am proud to know that she is unique. I didn't get the impression that the breeders took their decision lightly. They certainly were not doing it for money and close family members took puppies so they could see them grow up. I suppose that the point is quite simply that everyone has different tastes. Diversity is what makes the world go round.

As long as the dog is being well looked after, i can't see what everyones problem is!!!

Actually, I couldn't agree more. Anyway, I shan't be darkening the steps of this forum again and no, not because it was a wind up. I can assure you it wasn't. I have been shocked that the only responses I have had essentially have ridiculed me. So, thanks for the warm welcome. Me and my pulix will have to find some place else that welcomes all dogs, regardless of their heritage. My god, its like the Doggie version of the BNP in here...keep your race pure and all that.

Oh puuuuulease.... thats not the point at all.
You came on here to talk about how lovely your dog is, well, he sounds just like my dog, and everyone elses dog too! The point is that I do not agree with crossbreeding, unless its for a purpose. Thats my opinion, and nothign is going to change that. I can't see the point of deliberately breeding crossbreeds - just because they are nice "pets"!
I went to the rescue kennels the other day to see a dane that had been dumped. There we twenty other dogs in there, all crosses. People had dumped them because they were going on holiday etc etc...and what will they do straight after? Go and buy/get another puppy, out of the paper no doubt. I'm not saying thats exclusive to crossbreeds...but at least I am able to arrange fro Dane rescue to pick this boy up and get him into a foster home tomorrow...who 's doing that for the crossbreeds? No-one - because they are an unknown quantity.
X Breeds are a very emotive subject, and at the moment there have been lots of posts about them. The majority of people on hear are passionate about dogs, I don't think anyone intentionaly ridiculed you, and lots of posters here have x breeds too, but sadly lots of x breeds end up in resuce. So things can get a bit heated, I'm sure if you'd like to stick around you'll enjoy the board, pick up lots of useful info and add your bit too :)

To me people these days don't seem to research what a breed can do. They seem to go out looking for x's that have been mated by whatever as they hope that they will have both their traits and because they are interested in the way they look. There are hundreds of breeds around and now with the world of the internet surely there's a way to find a breed that can do everything that someone wants without having to cross two breeds that no-one has any idea what the resulting litter will turn out to be.
By the way I have nothing against cross breeds just don't understand why people intentionally cross two breeds together which are totally different in character, as surely you will get a mix of characters in the litter and not all the good points of both of them!!
Apologies if I have this wrong, but Pulixowner didn't breed the dog herself, s/he is the <<proud>> owner of one. I feel that s/he is getting a bit of a hard time, when she's a dog lover at the end of the day; bearing in mind my first two dogs as a child were x breeds or mongrels as they were known.

Some people take a crossbreed in simply because they love dogs. I understand people who don't agree with cross breeding, but these dogs are being born and isn't it better that they go to a loving home? No matter what anyone says there is no way to stop cross breeding as people being people will do as they please.
That sums it up so well. :)

My opinion on xbreeds is i have no problem with them and love them the same as a pedigree. i don't believe in people making money out of designer crosses and making new breeds out of them saying how wonderful they are and a better vertion of both 2 dogs. I think people who can't afford don't want a pedigree should try the local rescue centres as they have loads looking for new homes. And also careless people's dogs ending up pregnant to young and not having them injected i'm not saying the should have them spayed just to be more careful when they are in season. in some cases it may not be the bitches owners fault and that is fair enough. I definately don't agree with people giving the pups away free to good home coz they can't garantee it is a good home unless they do a home check and stay in contact. And also what happens if the people the pups have gone to can't keep the pup any longer will the bitches owner take it back i doubt it. I had Ollie a rottie x collie about a month ago and there were so many dogs in those kennels mainly xbreeds and a couple of bitches that had just had pups. I have no problem with people owning them but breeding them to make a few quid is rediculous and if people are going to breed croses please get the relevent checks done as it can still effect the pups. It can also be the same with pedigrees though and people only breeding for money and not having checks done and the same with puppy farmers if only there were all sdecent breeders out there wanting to improve the breed etc. I will always love any dog pedigree or mutt but this is my opinion and other people are entitled to theirs
