Hi all

I have got a 6 month old Westie called Hamish, he is fed on Eukanuba puppy at the moment and with this i add a bit of cooked chicken, he now only has 2 meals a day of which he has 45g of Eukanuba with around 3 pieces of chicken. He eats very well and is has always been quite a chunky Westie, he was the biggest puppy in the litter when we chose him.
I am just wondering if anybody knows roughly the weight that he should be at 6 months old, the vet weighed him last week and he was just over 6 kg, is this big for a Westie as the vet did not say that he was overweight and he does not look fat, but as i say he is very chunky.
He is walked every day so he gets exercise and is very lively running around the house, i just wondered whether anybody could give me a rough idea of the weight he should be.

Its hard to tell but 6 kl sounds about right as they should be about 17 pounds give or take a pound or two or so when adult. A tall chunky big boned adult male could weigh as much as 23-25 lb ( sorry, still do it in old fashioned money) without being overweight. It does depend on the individual, at 6 months 6kl weight could be "just right " for one dog and over/underweight for another.Its the dogs condition that is important - the weight is just a guide line. If you can just feel the outline of his ribs with splayed hands when you stand over him (when he is standing up) and run your hands, one each side up and back across his ribs and you can feel them without digging in then he will be about right. If you have to dig for his ribs he's overweight. Great little dogs aren't they?
