I have been lurking around on the board for close to two years. I never joined because so many of you out there seem so anti - social about cross bred dogs , personaly i find they have better temprements than pedigree dogs , and i find they are also a lot , lot , healthier.
I now own crossbred dogs , previously i owned pedigrees and found i had a lot more trouble with them , more than they seem to be worth !!
I would never own another dog that was a pedigree , and i would not line dog breeders pockets , i simply would not part with my hard earned cash.
But i do find myself getting a little annoyed when so many of you have bad words to say about mongrels/ crossbreeds.
We all have our own desired breed , mine are crossbreeds, they are what float my boat.
I dont agree with people creating new breeds by putting two different pedigree dogs together to create a `designer dog` i much prefer the hienz 57`s that seem to have more personality.
If people want a mongrel GO TO THE RELEVANT RESCUES this is what i now do.
And wouldnt have it any other way.
So can mongrels please be left alone now? Thank You. Jess.

Hi Jess if you bother to read the boards properly you might find that it's not the heinz 57's that anyone has a problem with it is the "designer crosses". I also have a cross breed as well as pedigree's and love her equally to the others . And i for one am sick to death of reading adverts selling crosses such as for eg akita x rotties at twice the price that those breeds would cost in their own right and with all the relevant papers and health tests done

As far as Pedigree dogs being unhealthy  - I grew up with a beautifully bred Pembroke Corgi - the old fashioned type built to work - he never saw a vet in his life and died at the ripe old age of 18 years but still in good condition, the next was a pedigree Cairn Terrier - also healthy, a stranger to the vet and lived to 18 years. After marrying I had a rescue Afghan cross, he was 'free' and adorable but the most expensive dog I ever owned, cost us a small fortune in vets fees and was never 100% with his itchy skin and allergies and didn't make it past 15years (the last 3 in a confused and dilapitated state), his vet now drives a Porche - and I think I paid for it!!

Personally I am totally against 'Designer' RIP OFFS. These dogs have been bred for one thing only - MONEY.

I've just said this in another post, but I'll say it again.

NOBODY has a problem with cross breeds...........we just have problems with idiots crossing 2 breeds to make money.
It's STUPID.

I think you'll find that most of us on here have owned or do own crossbreeds or mongrels. I personally have 3 X's along with 4 pedigrees.
I love them all equally.

As for throwing your money away on a pedigree dog........I agree, there are some breeders out there that are not worth their salt, but there are others that do all the relevant health tests...etc, for the good of our breeds.

Another thing..., I have to say, I've spent more money on vets bills for my X's than I have for my pedigrees.

I own two wonderful crossbreeds, I love them dearly, one has been rudely healthy, the other has cost £3000 in vets bills (luckily insured). We are planning a pedigree next, for various reasons - we need to know what we are getting as we have small children, I need to know the size, weight etc as I want to do agility and working trials and can't risk ending up with a dog that ends up too big ( not that it wouldn't be loved) as I wouldn't be able to continue my hobby that the dogs so enjoy.

I think it is easy to feel protective of our non breeds, but apart from the very odd true negative comment, most people are like you and me and despair of designer crosses, and unresponsible owners who add to the rescue problem by either not neutering or watching their bitches when in season

Enjoy your dogs, I'm sure everyone on here does!!!
