Could someone please tell me what breeds of dogs are listed as being dangerous in the uk?
I know the APBT is one of the breeds listed i was just wondering about other breeds.
Can anyone tell me?
Thanks, Mark.

Amongst those singled out for particular attention are
the Pit Bull Terriers, Japanese Tosa, the Dogo Argentino, and the Fila Brazileiro.
HI lel what confuses me is the reference to "dogs of pit bull type" - or am I misreading the act?

That's the bit that causes such a lot of trouble, Lorelei. Because pitbulls aren't a recognised breed, they can only be described as a "type". So any crossbreed that looks a bit 'pitbully' is in danger, no matter what breeds go into its makeup. Bad wording for a bad law. :(

the pitbull is a registered breed just not here in uk.pitbull type is a stupid wording used in this stupid law.means if a certain person thinks that a dog is pitbull type it should be put down.this includes old tyme staffs/irish staffs/long legged staffs etc.
as the pit and staff are so closely related if a breeder wanted to they could breed selectively from kc staffs to breed a dog that would look identical to a pitbull.which is what is happening now.
but to rspca members this pitbull wording can also include performance american bulldogs like scott type,presa/dogo canarios, even a staff cross with a lab if looked like a big staff they can consider it a pitbull!
ps dda include dogo argent, jap tosa inu, fila bras, american pitbullterriers and any cross breed dog which has any of these 4 dogs blood in them.example the swinford bandog (neop mastiff x american pit) or any other bandog with these 4 dda dogs breed in them

Also included in the Act is
"" any dog of any type designated for the purposes of this section by an order of the Secretary of State, being a type APPEARING to him to be bred for fighting or to have the CHARACTERISTICS of a type bred for that purpose. "
which means what ???

If he doesn't like the look of your dog, he'll have it taken away and destroyed.

i went to proffesional photographers to have pic done of my kids with the dogs and they refused as bull mastiffs were on their list of dangerous dogs
Therefore this could be applied to humans as in "NED(neglibly educated delinquent) or those wearing Burberry, Sportswear and baseball caps" or any other stereotype that gets up a judge's nose.........." Fat hairy blokes wearing tattoos and gold chains shall be arrested on suspicion of being criminals or breeding dogs irresponsibly for criminal purposes" - oops just described my husband!

My husband's name is NED! You leave him out of this!!! ;) :)
Uh oh, sorry JG just shows how dangerous stereotypes can be :):)

Refering to the statement above "appearing to be bred....." etc
Whose decision is this.
I always thought the law dealt with ( or is "supposed to " ) deal with FACTS and not some one just thinking the dog LOOKS like his idea of a fighting dog .
Is it the policeman , vet or judge who makes the decision that the dog LOOKSlike a fighting dog ???

This is one of the most evil aspects of the Act, Lel. It all boils down to personal opinion.

There is a peice in Our Dogs where a town in America is saying that the banning of Pitbulls doesnt actually work as all it does is take the pitbulls from Decent owners and drive the fighting etc underground .
At least they now realise this :(
