My 11 month old , heavy coated, female American Cocker spaniel,go through puppy coat changing. Matts and tangles form overnight and i,am afraid to brushing her everyday, because it's looks like every day she loosing more and more coat. Any secrets of how to make this terrible period less stressfull and less coat loss.

Hi Elena, Has she had her first season, and which colour is she? (Colour makes a difference to coat care). We never, ever brush our Am. Cockers out between baths. They are bathed at least weekly (more often with partis) and blow dried right through using a slicker and pin brush. (Use a good quality conditioner after washing). Then, on non show days, apply a coat spray, such as mink oil. This will help stop the matting. Brushing/combing daily will bring out lots of coat, wich may be impossible to re-grow. Is she losing it particularly on any places (such as front legs/tummy)? If it is very dry you might want to add an oil supplement to her diet, we feed Wheatgerm oil (contians vit.e), codliver oil. evening primrose oil and garlic oil (as well as cod liver oil sometimes).

Thank you, for the replay.
She is buff and she has her season already. It's not like she losing coat on specific areas(frot legs is still full)it's just al over get thiner. I put her in #1Systems Lanolin and looks like it's work very well.Just few matts forms beetwen bathing. What supplement it's better? It's so many now in the market.

Hi Elena,
The All systems lanolin is good - are you using it just mixed with water or including a conditioner. We use it mixed with the All systems Botanical Conditioner for best effect. Are you somewhere it is very hot/humid? This could be having a drying effect on her coat if so. Cant remember is the Lanolin rinse has a sunscreen, if not you might want to switch to a spray with sunscreen. And remember the conditioner, even if following up with a 'leave in' like the lanolin. We use ordinary 'human' supplement capsules with the various oils in them, jut pop the relevant capsules in the feed.

Well im sure half of you would have had a right laff if u had of saw my cocker when she was 8months old haha what a frizzy thing she was .
so we decided to take her to get her hair "professionaly" groomed little did we know they were going to shave her whole coat off.even though we asked for her to come back looking like a cocker .
anyway the fur grew back very quick and she has now got the most beautiful smooth silky fur. i guess she was just a ugly duckling back then.
if anyone can tell me where i can find somewhere that shows how to groom cockers can u post a message on here, im ok at it but im still learning everyone comments on her but i never know if ive left to much here and there blah blah.i like a cocker to represent a cocker not a shaved thingi haha thanks alot everyone xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
