My boxer pup is 17 weeks old and has had bouts of sensitive tummy problems. He has been fine for sometime however this morning he passed a motion that started as firm and ended quite soft. Shortly afterwards he started to go again but just passed a clear mucus. This was followed by occaisional straining for 10 minutes where he passed clear mucus (small amounts) with a very small spotting of blood, which I thought might be connected with him straining.
I am not sure whether to leave it and keep a close eye on him. Is it the heat causing him to feel unwell? Should I find an emergency vet? He looks fine and seems happy enough however I have not seen him pass mucus before and I am concerned. He is on a dry food formulated for sensitive tummies in puppies. It is special order from our vets and he has been fine on it for months - maybe this is just a one off but I would really appreciate any usefull feedback.
Boxers can be prone to colitis which can cause mucus like motions.
I would advise that you contact your vet as pups can dehydrate very quickly
especially in all this heat we are experiencing.

Thanks. I have spoke to the Royal Vetinary College who handle my vet's out of hours calls and they have advised that he has an upset and I should starve him for 12hours (bearing in mind he did eat this morning) and make sure he drinks plenty of water. They also mentioned that the blood spot was due him straining if it looked fresh - which it did. He is still looking fine and is desperate to play with me so I will keep him cool and well watered today and see how he is over the next 24hrs.

Don't forget to add some glucose to his cooled boiled water if you don't have any electrolyte to add to it
