Hello all,
My young bitch who is 10 months old had her 1st season & was on day 13 yesterday but one of my males has got to her through the cage he didn't tie luckily as i got to him before he could but he definately had a slip mating. I don't want her having pups at such a young age & i definately didn't think he'd manage through the cage, i have never been in this position before so please could someone give me the name of the injection which you can get from the vet to stop her conceiving? as i have asked him for it but he said there isn't one?????
The male is only 11 months himself & obviously unproven yet, but i guess he must be extremely keen seen as my elder 2 who are proven haven't bothered because they know she is in the cage & can't get her.
Little git!
Bye
Angela.

change your vet !!! if he/she is so clueless they dont know the name of something which id imagine a few customers will need then id not trust him/her with any dog of mine, -it would be risky letting this bitch have pups so young so find a vet thats good at his job,

Hi do you have the name of it?
They are actually very good vets but the man i seen yesterday in an emergency is a bit of a livestock cow person if you know what i mean & knows more about farm animals than domestic. I have an appointment for 4.00pm for my regular vet lady so hopefully she knows what i am on about & i am hoping it won't be too late.
I am not going to let her have pups thats why i am trying to sort it out, she's just a baby.
Bye
Angie.

angie, he might of been more a livestock person but they do have telephones at the surgery dont they ? or computers, im sure he could of found out for you, do a google search for misaliance etc it might tell you, really its not your job to find out .as for me. no ive never ever used it,

I wouldn't panic just yet as the newest jabs have to be given I think 3 and 5 days after the mating. A friend of mine just had this happen to her bitch when her season should have been finihsed, she went to the loo, and the bitch's nephew jumped the baby gate.
I don't know the name of the drug used I am afraid. Ask to speak to someone else, or have this vet look it up (they will have reference books) and ring you back with the arrangements.

As Dizzy says, go to another vet who is more up-to-date in his training. Phone around now.
Why do these things
always happen at a weekend?

This is intriguing.....how on earth did the dog manage to mate through the cage? Has it happenned to anyone else? Could it be easier for certain breeds to manage this ...bigger breeds rather than small breeds? I hope it all works out well for you.

Hi again,
I believe you have 36 hours to sort this out so there is no need to panic immediately.I believe it should be done between 24 hours and 36 hours from the time of the mating. Your vet should advise you anyway.

They are a small breed & she had her backside to the side of the cage & he had his legs through the wire when i caught them in the act! I have never had this happen before although i had heard of other peoples dogs mating through the wire on a kennel run but didn't think he would get her through the cage. Its a croft cage & the gaps are about 1" wide & 3" long. Thing is i have been careful to let her out every hour to clean herself in the garden & made sure i closed all the windows so they could't escape & get her that way then this happens.
Hopefully all will be sorted tonight. fingers crossed the injection works.
I won't ever be leaving the males in the same room when i have the bitches in season now!
Bye
Angie.

did you actually see them connect-if not id imagine the dog got himself in that state

by himself with wishful thinking,

Hi Dizzy,
All is sorted now & the vet has gave her the injection but has said to keep a close eye on her just in case.
Yes he did connect with her because i actually pulled him off gently so as not to hurt either & he had already done the job as there was fluid running out of her, i know he didn't tie because he was only in the room for no more than a minute as i had just opened the door to the room & turned round to get a brush from the drawer to brush her out.
The dog is still going mad trying to get into the other room at her so it hasn't put him off luckily as i do plan to use him when he is old enough although 3 males howling & whining away really is starting to get on my nerves so i hope she starts to go off shortly.
He is the most sex mad male i've ever had for one so young as well, i told his breeder this afternoon & he said that his dad is the same & won't let up on any bitch!
Bye

Hi,
whoever said the injections are done on days 3 and 5 after mating was right.
This has happened to a bitch of mine, and also to friends bitches.
Hope you've caught her in time, as I'm sure you know there may well be problems with such a young bitch having pups.
Hope all goes well

sorry...forgot to mention that the injections can prolong the season by about a week.

I asked a friend to look after my bitch whilst she was on heat to keep her away from our dog... needless to say she lied about her dog being castrated... ended up being a rush to the vets who injected her day 3 and 5 to bring her back into heat... so you must be extra careful for another couple of weeks - and its only 80% effective.

MY FRIENDS BITCH GOT MATED THROUGH A CHAIN LINK FENCE THE BITCH WAS A BASSETT AND THE DOG WAS A MINATURE DACHSHUND.SO YOU CAN IMAGINE THE SITE OF THOSE TWO TIED THROUGH THE FENCE!! SHE WAS SUCCESSFULLY INJECTED AND DID NOT CONCIEVE. WITH DOGS THAT ARE NOT NEUTERED/SPAYED WHERE THERE IS A WILL THERE IS A WAY!!!!

Hi all,
Yes the vet said she would need another jab on Tuesday & that she could well prolong her season so i am making sure the door to the other room stays shut & i have now fixed a bolt to it.
I have never had pups from slip matings & the vet thought it highly unlikely she would conceive from it considering he is very young maiden dog as well, but i am making sure she dosen't as i love my dogs & wouldn't want her having a litter at such a young age(no matter how keen she or he is!)

My bitch was accidentally mated by my dog on day 21 of her season last year. I had the injections done 3 and 5 days post-mating, and she still produced a litter. I wouldn't trust the jab again, and have had my dog castrated in order to prevent any further mishaps! Drastic, but effective!! :-)

Right to put the record straight about these jabs.
Yes your bitch can still be pregnant but there's only a 5% chance she might be, as the injections are given over 2 days now, the amount of hormone given isn't so high and this lessens the risks of pyo too. She may/may not have an extended season and I have heard it can bring them back in quicker the next time but haven't known anyone have this happen. All I would say is get some pulsatilla in to eliviate any false pregnancy symptoms your bitch may have over the next few weeks and she will probably have one very big coat drop in 3 months time.

You are right on the mark with this one, this needled is the same as basically the human 24 hour pill except four dogs, it is sometimes in effective but is a chance that she might conceive being so young and her first heat i think you will find that her body along with the injection, will stop this in its tracks......

Hi,
Just to let you all know i had her at the vets today for a scan & she is not having puppies! yippee!!!!!!:) thank god.
Thanks for all the help
Angie.
P.S she didn't come back into season with the injection luckily.

Phew! Separate bedrooms next season I think! ;)
