Puppy being fed beta puppy but seems to have gone off it since being very poorly. Vet gave him Hills Id canned food - 1 tin per day for 3 days (loved it) then 1 tin split and mixed with beta - went down ok then just feed beta - tried dry then tried soaking it - not keen at all. Vet said can't afford to loose anymore weight and can't afford to go without food either - suggested James Wellbeloved puppy food - has anyone and advice on this - where can I buy this from and do they sell small bags just in case he does not take to it. Puppy really needs to be built up now - vet also said weetabix (no milk), pasta, rice, chicken. I really need advice about what to give him to built him up - does not seem to be gaining weight or bulk - very thin.
Thanks in advance

The experts all now say that normal cow’s milk is not good for dogs. Unfortunately my dogs have never believed that! All of my puppies have had one milky meal a day, usually corn flakes. Ambrosia Cream Rice pudding is another favourite of mine
I start by feeding tinned food. Any good quality puppy tin to start with going over to adult grade by 5 to 6 months old. I don't increase on the tin as the puppy needs more, I make up the short fall with soaked complete food added to the tinned food. At around a year, maybe a bit less I gradually cut out the tins and go over to just complete, moist to start with then changing to feeding it dry.
As your vet said, pasta and rice are both good for dogs but I would feed them maybe as one meal out of the three or four you are at present feeding. Fed on their own I can't help thinking that it would be a little lacking in balance.
Best wishes, John

I use James Wellbeloved for all my puppies, you can get it from most pet shops and they do a small 2kg bag which is normally around £4/5 a bag.
Use goats milk instead of cows milk. Rice pudding is good all my puppies loved this. They now have raw mince beef and Wellbeloved mixed, and i some times add rice , pasta, sardinesand tripe which they all love.
Karen.
P.s. mine also have raw chicken wings, which they go mad over.
