I wonder if anyone can give me any advice because I am having trouble house training my lab puppy. I have tried absolutely everything. When she shows signs of need to go I take her outside to her toilet area where I have put down newspaper with a little bit of her wee on it. I end up standing outside for hours as she will not go. I have tried her on her lead and keeping her in her toilet area and when she eventually does go give her lots of praise and a treat. If she doesn't go I end up bringing her back inside and watch her closely for signs of needing to go again and ultimately end up repeating the whole process. Lately she has taken to weeing as soon as she is let back in the house before I have time to take her back out. I'm really desperate. Standing outside for hours on end can't be normal, can it? Help!

How old is your pup ?
Do you use a word for when you want your pup to go outside - ie "toilet" , "wee" etc ?
Some people forget this and although they praise afterwards the dog does not always know why it has gone outside or what is expected from it .It doesnt matter what word you choose as long as its always the same word used .
Praise as you are doing saying good boy/girl and also offer a treat as a reward . We used this method and Gus was very keen to learn as he knew he would be rewarded .
Good luck :D

We crate trained ours by putting them in it for a few hours feeding them and then letting them out as they wont wee in their own bed and also they slept in the crate which was put next to the bed and let out in the morning ours now 2 goes and sit in the crate to get some sleep. We put paper by the back dorr aswell so they got the idea
good luck with her
