Maisie came into season last night so on Friday she will be going to my Nan's for a holiday until Xmas & it got me thinking. What do other people do when they have entire bitches & dogs living together? Do you put the bitch in kennels? or the dog? or do you have lots of room to keep them far enough apart? Just wondering. Thanx.

HI Freeway

NO experience myself, but a BSd breeder I know, who also does rescue so she has tended ot have a variety of entire dogs/bitches as well as her own, has lots of gates - baby gates in the house, and several fenced areas, and gates outisde in the garden.

She just has to be careful she knows which dog is where and so on! She is there all day too which must help a lot :)

At home, I only have 1 dog with 4 bitches, so when one comes into season they are simply kept apart...no problem.
In the kennels, girls & boys housed seperately, and in season girls go into another area.

this is the reason I don't keep both sexes. My suburban house has no practical way of splitting dogs up. the living room leads into kitchen which leads to back door. Also our breeds males get very upset about an in season bitch being near, noise seems to be the least of the side effects, others include lack of appetite, total inability to concentrate. Being a bitch owner in the past I had no sympathy for the males frustration, until I saw a male suffering. :)
